COURTNEY ADAMS BYRD
Women's Soccer
2005 University of Montevallo Athletic Hall of Fame inductee
Courtney Adams was a member of the first intercollegiate women's
soccer squad at Montevallo She was a four-year letterwinner and
team captain for three years. She anchored the Lady Falcon defense
as a sweeper, and assisted the Lady Falcons in posting three
shutout victories in 1996, four shutout victories in 1997 and seven
shutout victories in 1998. She was twice named to the All-Gulf
South Conference Team, earning First Team honors in 1996 and again
in 1997. She was named to the GSC All-Tournament teams in
1996 and 1998. Adams attended Shades Mountain Christian High
School, where she was named team MVP her sophomore, junior and
senior seasons. Courtney was a 1998 graduate from UM and received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. Courtney currently
resides in Hoover with her husband Chad and her children, and works
as an accounting and administrative assistant with the ADCO
companies.
HAROLD BREEN
Men's Golf
2005 University of Montevallo Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Harold Breen was a top competitor for the UM men's golf program. A four-year letterwinner, Harold was a three-time NAIA All-District 27 selection, earning the honor in 1982, 1983, 1985, and was named medalist in 1982. He was a two-time All-Southern States Conference selection, and earned All-Tournament honors in four tournaments. Harold earned medalist honors in the Point Mallard Intercollegiate in 1982 and University of North Alabama Classic in 1983. He concluded his career among the top 15 at UM in career stroke average (76.9). He also recorded a hole-in-one at the 195 yard, 15th hole at Riverchase Country Club in 1985. In 1985, he was the recipient of the Neal Shirley Award, given to an athlete that best exemplifies character, perseverance and demonstrates the leadership qualities desired in a student at the University. A 1985 graduate from UM in Business Administration, Harold currently resides in Arab, with wife Valeria, and children Erica and Anna Marie. He is employed as Director of Business Development for Mtronics, Inc. in Huntsville.
WILLIAM R. "Billy" HILL
Meritorious Service
2005 University of Montevallo Athletic Hall of Fame inductee William R. "Billy" Hill has been a long-time supporter of Falcon and Lady Falcon athletics teams. He joined the UM Falcon Club in 1990 as a supporter of the men's basketball team for coach Rob Spivery, and became Chairman of the Falcon Club Board of Directors in 1992. One of the major accomplishments that Hill directed was securing the rights to the Region III Olympic Development Program (ODP) girls soccer camp, beginning in the summer of 1993. Many of the top players in women's soccer at the national and international level have competed in the ODP program.
Professionally, Hill received his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1975. He was elected as Shelby County's first District Judge in 1976, appointed, and subsequently re-elected as District Attorney. He was elected President of the Alabama District Attorney Association in 1980. Since 1986, he has been involved in private practice. He received his bachelors degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1972, and resides with his wife, Michele, in Montevallo, Ala.
MATTHEW WHEATLEY
Men's Soccer
2005 University of Montevallo Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Matthew Wheatley is one of the most highly decorated players to compete for the University of Montevallo men's soccer program. A four-year letterwinner, Wheatley was a four-time All-Gulf South Conference and three-time First Team All-GSC selection. He became the first men's soccer player to be named to the NSCAA All-South Region Team in 1999. He also was named to All-GSC Tournament teams in 1997 and 1999.
Wheatley was part of the 1999 UM squad that claimed the school's first-ever Gulf South Conference Championship and set the school record for single-season victories (12). Wheatley has also competed professionally, for the Louisiana Outlaws, and the Dallas Burn in a Major League Soccer (MLS) pre-season match. He currently resides in Texas, where he serves as an assistant coach for the New Territory Soccer Club, and clinician for the Eclipse Soccer Club. He received his B.A. degree in Business Administration from UM in 2001.
