HOW IT HAPPENED

Augusta snapped the Falcons' six-game winning streak with a 73-60 win over Montevallo in a Peach Belt Conference contest Jan. 7.

Senior Kevin Kelly drained a 3-pointer with 16:54 remaining in the first half to give the Falcons a 5-4 advantage, but it turned out to be the only lead in the game for Montevallo.

The Jaguars quickly responded with a 6-0 run, capped with a jumper by Kyle Doyle with 15:33 left in the opening half, and took a 11-5 lead.

Augusta led by as many as 13 points in the opening half following a 3-pointer by Keshun Sherrill with 2:21 left in the half, which gave the Jaguars a 34-21 lead. A dunk by senior Javonte Douglas in the final moments of the first half capped a 8-2 run by Montevallo and trimmed the Jaguars' lead to 36-29 heading into the break.

The Falcons managed to keep the deficit within single digits until the 10:22 mark in the second half, when Deane Williams knocked down a pair of free throws to give Augusta a 54-44 lead. The Jaguars led by as many as 16 points down the stretch.

STAT OF THE GAME

Junior Jamaar Taylor scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the floor and a 4-of-4 performance at the charity stripe, while fellow senior Javonte Douglas recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds against the Jaguars.
