Douglas selected to play in Reese’s Division II All-Star Game

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Montevallo senior Javonte Douglas has been chosen to play in the Reese's NCAA Division II All-Star Game during the Elite Eight at the Sanford Pentagon on Friday, March 24.

Tip off for the All-Star Game is set for 7 p.m. Central. The game will be streamed live on the Sanford Pentagon Facebook page.

Douglas is the second Montevallo men's basketball standout to be selected to play in the annual All-Star Game, joining the Montevallo and Peach Belt Conference all-time assist leader Troran Brown, who played in the game following his senior season in 2014-15. Brown led all players in assists in the All-Star Game with nine assists while scoring four points and grabbing six rebounds for the West squad in a 140-112 win over the East.

The All-Stars are selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The game will be played during the NCAA Division II Elite Eight on the day between the semifinals and championship games. The All-Star Game will feature East and West teams of 10 senior student-athletes. Two student-athletes are selected from each of the eight regions in NCAA Division II with the four remaining selections made at-large.

The coaches for the game are former Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota Mankato State head coach Butch Raymond and former Augustana head coach Bill Gross.

Douglas was recently named a first team NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region selection by D2CCA, the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association and is on the ballot for NCAA Division II All-American voting.

The 6-foot-8 forward from Charlotte, North Carolina remains one of 50 finalists for the Bevo Francis Award recognizing the top small college basketball player in the nation. Douglas was also named a first team All-Peach Belt Conference selection.

Douglas, a four-time Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week selection, led the conference in three separate statistical categories this season.

Douglas averaged a conference-high 24.2 points per game and a conference-best 11.3 rebounds per game to go along with a conference-leading 46.5 percent (40-of-86) shooting from beyond the arc.

Douglas is the only player nationally in NCAA Division II to be ranked in the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding. Douglas finished in double figures in scoring in every game he played in and posted a conference-leading 14 double-doubles this season.

Douglas scored a career-high 34 points against Lane College and grabbed a career-best 20 rebounds against Lander University during his senior season.
