Montevallos Garcia Set to Play in Valley Baseball Leagues All-Star Game
WINCHESTER, Va. Upcoming senior Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Gulf Coast C.C.) of the University of Montevallo baseball team has been named to the Valley Baseball Leagues North All-Star Team. He was selected at first base despite playing third base, shortstop and catcher for the Montevallo in 2009. The game is set to take place on Sunday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m.

Twenty-nine Montevallo Student-Athletes Named to GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. The University of Montevallo athletic department was third among East Division Gulf South Conference schools with 29 student-athletes named to the Gulf South Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. Three individuals were named to their respective All-Academic Teams for the 2008-09 year. The Falcons trailed just the University of West Florida (41) and Valdosta State University (31) who each field softball and mens tennis teams which adds to their total number.

Falcons Awarded Two Gulf South Conference Honors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team was awarded two honors by the Gulf South Conference. The Falcons were honored with the GSC East Division Freshman of the Year and awarded a spot on the All-Gulf South Conference East Division First Team. Former Hoover High School standouts Ryan Norman (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) and Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) helped lead the Falcons this season with Norman being a senior and Daugherty coming in as a freshman.

Falcons End Season with Doubleheader Loss to No. 14 Georgia College
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. The University of Montevallo baseball team (22-31-1) closed out the 2009 campaign with a doubleheader loss to future conference rival No. 14 Georgia College and State University (35-13), 20-2 and 19-5. The Falcons had five players with multiple hits on the day including freshman Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) who had three hits to lead the team. Juniors Chris Sosebee (Warrior, Ala./Jefferson State C.C.) and Nelson Garcia, Jr. (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) led the team with two RBI each.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. The University of Montevallo baseball team (22-29-1) fell to No. 14 Georgia College and State University (33-13), 15-1. Junior Nelson Garcia, Jr. (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) went 2-for-3 to lead the Falcons at the plate. Junior Taylor Edwards (Pleasant Grove, Ala./Northwest Shoals C.C.) tossed 2.2 innings of relief while striking out six on the mound.

Falcons Fall in Final GSC Game of the Year to Valdosta State
MONTEVALLO, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (22-27-1, 4-14 GSC East) dropped its final Gulf South Conference contest to Valdosta State University (34-16, 9-7 GSC East), 16-3. The Falcons will move to the Peach belt Conference next season and will get an early look at the competition as they play to PBC schools in the upcoming week. Freshman Brett Roney (Wetumpka, Ala./Wetumpka) shined on senior day as he went 2-for-3 with a double and a homerun.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (22-26-1, 4-13 GSC East) fell at home to Valdosta State University (33-16, 8-6 GSC East) in a doubleheader, 14-3 and 11-1. The Falcons were led by freshman Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) who went 3-for-4 in game one before missing game two. Four other Falcons had two base hits each to trail just behind Daugherty.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (22-24-1) dropped its final non-conference home game of the season to No. 17 Delta State University (29-13), 13-3. The Falcons scattered five hits and three runs throughout the game while the Statesmen scored 13 and had 18 hits.

Falcons Lose Heartbreaker to No. 17 Delta State, 5-4
MONTEVALLO, Ala. Heading into the ninth inning with a 4-3 lead and a pitcher who had pitched the last four innings without giving up an earned run, the University of Montevallo baseball team (22-23-1) felt confident it could upend the No. 17 Delta State University (28-13) Statesmen. Three errors and two runs later the Falcons found themselves on the other end of the scale trailing 5-4 heading into the bottom of the inning. The Falcons were unable to respond and fell by the slimmest of margins, 5-4.

The Falcons were led by freshman Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a hit by pitch. Freshman Josh Headley (Gardendale, Ala./Gardendale) and senior Ryan Norman (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) each chipped in three hits as well.

The second game was called due to lighting following the sixth inning. UM was led by junior Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Snead State C.C.) who had three hits including a double and an RBI.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (21-20-1) came within one out of its first victory in April. Stillman College used a three-run ninth inning to overcome a two-run deficit and send Montevallo home with its seventh-straight loss. The Falcons were led by freshman Brett Roney (Wetumpka, Ala./Wetumpka) and junior Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Snead State C.C.) who each had two hits. Roney added a run scored and an RBI while Revell picked up two runs scored, a triple and an RBI.

Falcons Fall in Slugfest, 27-6
MONTEVALLO, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (21-19-1) struggled to get going defensively while Columbus State University (20-15) was hitting on all cylinders. This combination led to a 27-6 victory for the Cougars. The Falcons produced 10 hits and scored five runs in the sixth but the damage had already been done as the Cougars cruised to victory.

Falcons Gain Valuable Experience Against Barons
HOOVER, Ala. For 36 student-athletes it was an experience of a lifetime as the University of Montevallo baseball team traveled north to take on the Chicago White Sox Double-A affiliate Birmingham Barons. The Falcons got the chance to take on a professional ball club in one of the better stadiums in the Southern League.

Montevallo Drops Fog Shortened Contest with UAH, 14-0
MONTEVALLO, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (21-18-1, 3-9 GSC East) fell for the third-straight time to the University of Alabama-Huntsville (21-8, 4-4 GSC East), 14-0. The game only lasted six innings after fog rolled over the field and made it impossible for the outfielders to make any plays. The Chargers wasted little time jumping on the Falcons who had spent the entire afternoon working on preparing the field for play.

In game one the Falcons were led by a pair of freshman Brett Roney (Wetumpka, Ala./Wetumpka) and Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover). Roney went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Daugherty was 3-for-6 with a double and three RBI. In game two it was junior Cory Luckie (Fairhope, Ala./Bevill State C.C.) who led the way with a 2-for-3 performance with two RBI.

Falcons Sweep Doubleheader against No. 13 North Alabama
FLORENCE, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (21-14-1, 3-5 GSC East) swept a doubleheader on the road for the first time this season against No. 13 University of North Alabama (23-13, 2-3 GSC East). This also marked the first series sweep at North Alabama by Montevallo since joining the NCAA in 1996. The Falcons used the long ball to down the Lions, 9-6 and 6-4. The Falcons blasted six homeruns accounting for eight of Montevallos runs. Junior Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Snead State C.C.) delivered two of those blasts good for three RBI. He also chipped in a pair of doubles while going 4-of-9 at the plate.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (17-8-1) returned to its winning ways as the Falcons swept the Pioneers of Columbia Union College (3-6), 5-3 and 6-0. The Falcons were led by their pitching as the staff did not allow an earned run throughout the two games. Five pitchers combined for the Montevallo effort as they struck out 13 and allowed just 12 hits.

Falcons Break Into National Rankings
MONTEVALLO, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (13-5-1) broke into the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II National Poll at No. 30. The Falcons enter the rankings for the first time since Feb. 18, 2008. They are tied for 30th with Sonoma State, Erskine and Cal. State Dominguez Hills.

McLeod Named GSC East Division Pitcher of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Junior pitcher Caleb McLeod (Pleasant Grove, Ala./Shelton State C.C.) of the University of Montevallo baseball team (13-5-1) was named Gulf South Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week. McLeod is the first Montevallo pitcher since Zac Blakney (2007-08) to be given the award. The last time the Falcons were awarded a Pitcher of the Week was March 27, 2007.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. The University of Montevallo baseball team (9-4-1) used late inning explosions to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan College (0-6), 14-5 and 6-2. Junior John Michael Caraway (Trussville, Ala./Gadsden State C.C.) picked up both wins after coming in for relief in both games. He pitched a total of 3.2 shutout innings while striking out two. The two wins improve his record to 2-0 on the season.

Falcon head coach John Jarnagin picked up his 300th career victory with the 5-3 win. Only in his second season at Montevallo, Jarnagin picked up most of his wins at Morehead State University.
