Falcons Fall in Final Game with West Florida, 9-0
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of Montevallo baseball team (19-10-1, 1-2 GSC East) fell to 1-2 in the Gulf South Conference East Division with a 9-0 loss against the University of West Florida (16-10, 2-1 GSC East). The Argonauts scored nine runs off of 11 hits while the Falcons failed to produce a run off their five hits. The Falcons were led by junior Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Snead State C.C.) who went 2-for-4 at the plate and was the only falcons with more than one hit.
The Argonauts struck early as they scored five runs in the second inning to take a commanding lead. They went on and scored a run in the third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings to power past the Falcons 9-0.
UM used three pitchers including starter Brandon Aldridge (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills) who picked up his third loss of the season. He went the first two innings and was followed by freshman Mitch Holcombe (Oak Grove, Ala./Oak Grove) and junior Justin Aaron (Morris, Ala./Jefferson State C.C.). Holcombe pitched 3.2 innings with a strikeout and three walks while Aaron went the final 2.1 innings with a strikeout and a walk.
The Falcons only had one runner reach second base and that was Revell in the very first inning as he hit a two-out single and reached second after senior Ryan Norman (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) was walked. The very next batter grounded out to end the inning.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, March 21 against the University of West Alabama at home in the friendly confines of Kermit A. Johnson Field.
