Montevallo Drops Series with West Alabama, 15-8

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo baseball team (19-13-1, 1-5 GSC East) lost its third-straight game to the University of West Alabama (20-9, 5-0 GSC East) in the final game of the series, 15-8. The Falcons played even ball with the Tigers through three innings but quickly fell behind as the Tigers put up seven runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Senior Ryan Norman (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) paced the Falcons going 3-for-4 at the plate with a homerun, three runs scored, a walk and an RBI.

Junior Chris Sosebee (Warrior, Ala./Jefferson State C.C.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of walks while junior Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Gulf Coast C.C.) was 2-for-4 with a run scored, a walk and three RBI. Senior Chase Fowler (Sylacauga, Ala./Central Alabama C.C.) picked up two RBI while connecting on one hit and junior Cory Luckie (Fairhope, Ala./Bevill State C.C.) went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a walk.

Junior John Michael Caraway (Trussville, Ala./Gadsden State C.C.) picked up the loss as he started the game and went 4.0 innings with a strikeout and two walks. Five pitchers combined for the final five innings while senior Brandon Aldridge (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills) went 2.0 innings with two strikeouts and just two hits allowed.

The Falcons struck early as they took a 2-0 lead in the first as Garcia picked up a bases loaded two out walk to score freshman Brett Roney (Wetumpka, Ala./Wetumpka). Luckie then singled to score Norman.

The Tigers responded with a run in the second and then took a 3-2 lead in the third with a pair of runs. The Falcons tied the game up in the bottom half as Norman led off with a solo blast to deep left centerfield.

UWA took the lead for good in the fourth with a single run. They tacked on seven more in the fifth to make it 11-3. The Falcons responded with two in the bottom half as Fowler hit a two-RBI single to right field to score Garcia and Sosebee.

Up 11-5 the Tigers stepped on the gas once again as they scored three more runs in the sixth to take the score to 14-5. The Falcons once again matched the Tigers in the bottom half with three runs of their own. Garcia had a two-RBI single and Sosebee later scored on a pick off attempt at first.

The Falcons went scoreless in the final three innings while the Tigers tacked on one more run in the eighth for a final of 15-8.

The Falcons return to action Wednesday, March 25 at 3 p.m. as they host Stillman College.
