Montevallo Falls to No. 17 Delta State, 13-3

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo baseball team (22-24-1) dropped its final non-conference home game of the season to No. 17 Delta State University (29-13), 13-3. The Falcons scattered five hits and three runs throughout the game while the Statesmen scored 13 and had 18 hits.

The Falcons had five players who each had a hit while two had an RBI. Sophomore Joe Prokop (Clanton, Ala./Chilton County) was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored while senior Ryan Norman (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Cory Luckie (Fairhope, Ala./Bevill State C.C.) picked up a double while junior Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Gulf Coast C.C.) had an RBI. Senior Jeremy Jones (Troy, Ala./Lurleen B. Wallace C.C.) and freshman Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) were the other two Falcons with hits.

On the mound senior Brandon Aldridge (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills) took home the loss going 6.0 innings. Junior Nic Porter (Dadeville, Ala./Central Alabama C.C.) went 1.2 innings in relief with a strikeout and two walks while junior Jason Ellis (Vestavia Hills, Alabama/Vestavia Hills) pitched the remaining 1.1 innings with a walk.

The Falcons fell behind early as the Statesmen scored nine runs before the Falcons pushed across their first score. UM scored in the bottom of the third off an RBI groundout by Norman.

The two teams went scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before DSU added another run to their lead in the seventh. They tacked on three more in the eighth before a Garcia groundout plated another Falcons score.

Down 13-2 heading into the ninth the Falcons were able to score once again as Jones hit a single to left field that was bobbled and allowed Prokop to cross the plate.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. as they host Valdosta State University in a doubleheader. The Falcons will honor their six seniors in between games on Saturday as well.
