Falcons Set for Season Opener Monday

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo baseball team is gearing up for the 2010 season. The Falcons will be competing in the Peach Belt Conference for the first time in program history and looks to build on a strong tradition of baseball at Montevallo. The Falcons open up their 2010 campaign with seven-straight home games beginning on Monday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. against Stillman College.

The Falcons schedule features 30 home games along with 20 road contests. UM takes on eight teams ranked in the 2010 Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Preseason Poll and six teams who participated in the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Falcons welcome 10 newcomers to the squad that features 19 returners. UM has seven pitchers returning who started at least one game last season and they also return 10 position players who started at least one game. Six of the top seven batting averages from last season return to compliment the wealth of new talent brought in by the freshman and transfers.
