MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo baseball team (1-3) dropped a pair of games against the University of West Florida (3-0) this afternoon (Feb. 3). The Falcons fell in a heartbreaking 13-10 game one before dropping game two 9-2. UM was led by senior Chris Sosebee (Warrior, Ala./Sumiton Christian) who went 5-for-8 at the plate with a homerun and four RBI.

Senior Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Albertville) and sophomore Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) each went 3-for-8. Revell had a double and a homerun with two RBI while Daugherty chipped in a double and two runs scored. Junior Scottie Deason (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park) had two hits including a homerun and a double while driving in three runs. Senior Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Dunedin) had the only other RBIs as he drove in a pair while going 1-for-5 at the plate.

Sophomore Brett Roney (Wetumpka, Ala./Wetumpka) picked up the first game loss going 0.1 innings while giving up three runs. Junior Cameron Sokalski (Delta, British Columbia/North Delta) had the loss in game two as he went 5.0 innings striking out six and walking five. Junior Kyle Butler (Powder Springs, Ga./McEachern) got the start in game one as he went 3.1 innings with five strikeouts and three walks.

The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in game one as Deason hit a solo homerun in the first inning. The homerun was his first hit in a Montevallo uniform. The Argonauts stormed back in the third as they scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead. UM responded with one run in the bottom half of the inning as Deason used a ground out to drive in freshman Austin Dubberly (Helena, Ala./Pelham).

The Argos scored two more in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead but that just sparked the Falcons offense who exploded for seven runs in the bottom half. The Falcons used a pair of two-run homeruns from Sosebee and Revell along with an RBI double from Deason, a sacrifice fly from Garcia and an RBI single from Sosebee who came up for a second time in the inning.

The Falcons led 9-6 and looked to be in control of the game. The Argos began to whittle away at the lead as they scored two runs in the seventh. UWF regained the advantage in the eighth as they drove across four runs to take a 12-9 lead.

UM added a run in the eighth as Garcia scored on a throwing error by the third baseman but they could not catch up as UWF added another run in the ninth and closed out the game winning 13-10.

The second game was all UWF as they jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first inning. They added another run in the third before the Falcons could cross the plate. UM broke through in the fourth as Sosebee hit an RBI single down the left field line to score Josh Dabbs (Hueytown, Ala./Hueytown). UWF added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead.

UM scored its second and final run in the sixth as Garcia singled up the middle to score Daugherty. Two more runs by the Argos in the seventh ended the game 9-2.

The Falcons will return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 3:00 p.m. as they host the University of West Alabama.
