Garcia and Dubberly Receive Player and Freshman of the Week Honors
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Senior centerfielder Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Dunedin) and freshman third baseman Austin Dubberly (Helena, Ala./Pelham) of the University of Montevallo baseball team (3-4) were named Peach Belt Conference Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively. This is the first PBC Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honor for both the team and both players.
Garcia hit .500 with a 1.375 slugging percentage in three games last week. The senior outfielder went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run against No. 15 West Alabama. He drove in four runs in that game and scored three times. His next outing against Northwest Missouri State saw him draw three walks and end up with only one at-bat, but he still managed to drive in a run and score twice. He finished against NWMSU going 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and two more runs scored. He stole two bases in two attempts and struck out only once. He is currently fourth in the PBC in runs scored and walks.
Dubberly hit .417 with a 1.000 slugging percentage in three games for the Falcons. The freshman went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored against No. 15 West Alabama, then went 1-for-3 in the first game against Northwest Missouri State with a home run and three RBIs. In the second game against NWMSU, he went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. He also stole a base and did not commit an error at third in six chances. He is currently seventh in the PBC in slugging percentage, fifth in RBIs and second in total bases.
The Falcons will return to action this afternoon, Feb. 16 at 3:00 p.m. as they travel to No. 16 Delta State University.
