Falcons Fall to 17th-Ranked North Georgia, 6-1
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo baseball team (6-20, 0-10 PBC) fell on the road to 17th-ranked North Georgia College and State University (17-8, 7-3 PBC), 6-1. The Falcons were led by sophomore Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) who went 2-for-4 at the plate. Junior Joe Prokop (Verbena, Ala./Chilton County) picked up the Falcons lone RBI with a solo homerun in the seventh inning.
Senior Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Dunedin) and junior Scottie Deason (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park) each had doubles for the Falcons only extra-base hits in the game other than the Prokop homerun.
Senior Heath Tapscott (Hartselle, Ala./Hartselle) made the start for the Falcons on the mound as he went 7.0 innings while striking out seven and walking seven. He took home the loss as his record fell to 2-3 on the season. Junior Cameron Sokalski (Delta, British Columbia/North Delta) pitched the final inning while giving up three hits and a run.
The Falcons fell behind early as the Saints scored a run in the second and two runs in the third. NGCSU took a 5-0 lead in the fifth as they scored another two runs but the Falcons responded in the seventh as Prokop hit a one-out solo homerun to left centerfield. The Saints tacked on an insurance run in the very next inning as the game ended 6-1.
The Falcons will return to action tomorrow, March 20 at 12 p.m. as they close out the series against NGCSU in a doubleheader.
