Falcons Snap Streak with Win over UAH, 9-3

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team (7-22) snapped its 15-game losing streak with a 9-3 win over the visiting University of Alabama in Huntsville (16-9). The Falcons jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they led 6-0 after the first two innings. UM was led by senior Chris Sosebee (Warrior, Ala./Sumiton Christian) who went 2-for-4 with a pair of homeruns, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Freshman Austin Dubberly (Helena, Ala./Pelham) was 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

The Falcons used seven pitchers on the day with senior Justin Aaron (Morris, Ala./Mortimer Jordan) getting the start. Aaron pitched 4.0 innings while striking out two and walking two. He gave up just two hits. He was not able to get the win due to not pitching the necessary 5.0 innings. Junior Joey Noro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) took home the win as he pitched 1.2 innings of relief with a strikeout.

The Falcons scored three runs in both the first and second inning. Senior Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Dunedin) knocked home the first run as he hit a sacrifice fly to right field which scored Daugherty who led off with a hit by pitch. Sosebee then hit a two-run homerun to left field to put the Falcons ahead 3-0.

In the second inning a pair of hits and two errors by the Chargers led to three more runs for the Falcons. Dubberly picked up his first RBI of the game as he doubled down the left field line to score junior Scottie Deason (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park). UM’s other two runs came off of errors.

The Falcons added to their lead in the fourth as Dubberly singled home sophomore Josh Headley (Gardendale, Ala./Gardendale). The Chargers finally answered in the sixth as they scored one run in the top half.

UM responded with a solo run in both the sixth and seventh to go up 9-1. Sophomore Duston Daugherty (Hoover, Ala./Hoover) singled home senior Andy Revell (Albertville, Ala./Albertville) in the sixth while Sosebee led off the seventh with a solo homerun.

The Chargers scored two runs in the eighth but that would be all they could muster as the Falcons won 9-3.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, March 27 at 11:30 a.m. as they travel to Armstrong Atlantic State University for a PBC doubleheader.
