Falcons Drop Final PBC Doubleheader of the Season
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team (12-34, 5-18 PBC) fell in their final Peach Belt Conference doubleheader of the season to 12th-ranked Georgia College & State University (28-12, 16-4 PBC). UM fell in game one 16-5 and game two 19-12. UM was led by senior Kevin Garcia (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Dunedin) who went 3-for-6 at the plate with two doubles, three runs scored, three RBI and three walks. Senior Chris Sosebee (Warrior, Ala./Sumiton Christian) led the team in hits with four as he went 4-for- 9 at the plate with three runs scored, a double and three RBI.
Junior Scottie Deason (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park) was 3-for-6 as well with a double and two RBI. Freshman Austin Dubberly (Helena, Ala./Pelham) was the only other Falcon with three hits as he went 3-for-9 with a double, a walk and two RBI.
Sophomore Josh Headley (Gardendale, Ala./Gardendale) had two hits including a homerun with two RBI while junior Josh Dabbs (Hueytown, Ala./Hueytown) went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
Senior Heath Tapscott (Hartselle, Ala./Hartselle) took home the loss in game one as he went 6.0 innings with four strikeouts and five walks. His record fell to 2-3 on the season. Junior Joey Noro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) took home the loss in game two as he went 3.2 innings with no strikeouts and a pair of walks. His record fell to 2-4 on the season.
The Falcons gave up 18 hits in game one and 24 hits in game two. UM struggled to get going offensively in the first game but had a four-run inning late as they scored five runs combined in the seventh and eighth innings. In game two UM found its offensive groove but could not stop the high-powered GCSU offense. UM scored 12 runs off of 13 hits but the Bobcats scored 19 runs off 24 hits.
The Falcons close out their series with GCSU tomorrow, April 18 at 1 p.m.
