MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Boys and Girls Club of Montevallo showed their purple and gold colors on Wednesday, April 14 when they came to campus to support the University of Montevallo baseball team as the Falcons took on Delta State University. Enjoying a hotdog, chips, and soda complementary of the UM Athletic Department the 70 boys and girls club members enjoyed the game and danced in between innings to the chicken dance and YMCA.
“Our community engagement is a huge part of who we are and if one child comes to UM as a result we know we have and will continue to make a difference in their lives,” said head women’s soccer coach Patricia Hughes who helped coordinate the event.
The mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama is to provide facilities, programs and leadership to enable all youth to develop and achieve their maximum potential in accordance with Judeo-Christian principles.
Following the game the boys and girls club members had the opportunity to get an autograph from some of the UM baseball team members. Catcher Joe Prokop (Verbena, Ala./Chilton County) was joined by fellow teammates Scottie Deason (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park) and Justin Aaron (Morris, Ala./Mortimer Jordan).
“I had a great time signing autographs for the kids,” said Prokop. “The baseball team and I really enjoy participating in community events like this.”
