MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team (1-2) split a rain shortened doubleheader with the University of Alabama-Huntsville (2-1) at home. The Falcons won the opening game 5-4 in nine innings before falling 4-2 in just five and a half innings due to a heavy downpour. The Falcons were led on the day by junior Vincente Andrews (Phenix City, Ala./Chattahoochee Valley C.C.) who was 4-for-6 at the plate over the two games with three runs scored and a double. Senior Kirk Waligora (Hartland, Mich./Lambuth University) was 3-for-7 while junior Andrew Hill (Helena, Ala./Pelham) went 3-for-4 with a run scored.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team (0-1) opened the 2012 season with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in 10 innings to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (1-0). The Falcons were led by junior Vincente Andrews (Phenix City, Ala./Chattahoochee Valley C.C.) who was 2-of-5 at the plate with a homerun, two RBI and a run scored. Senior Heath Peterson (Phenix City, Ala./Chattahoochee Valley C.C.) was 3-of-4 at the plate with a run scored and a walk.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team’s season opener has been moved to Thursday, Feb. 2 at 2:00 p.m. The team was originally scheduled to open the season on Friday, Feb. 3 but will now host the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 2:00 p.m. for a single game and a doubleheader on Friday tentatively scheduled to begin at noon. The Friday doubleheader could be moved up depending on the forecast Friday morning. The Falcons will no longer take on UAH on Saturday due to inclement weather. MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo baseball team had three players honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Junior Austin Dubberly (Helena, Ala./Pelham) was named Honorable Mention Preseason All-American as well as First Team Preseason All-Southeast Region. Senior Chris Ross (Pelham, Ala./Jefferson State C.C.) and senior Heath Peterson (Phenix City, Ala./Chattahoochee Valley C.C.) were named Second Team Preseason All-Southeast Region. The Falcons also received votes in the Preseason Southeast Region Poll finishing just four spots outside the top-10.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Senior Heath Peterson (Phenix City, Ala./Chattahoochee Valley C.C.) and junior Austin Dubberly (Helena, Ala./Pelham) of the University of Montevallo baseball team were named to the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Preseason All-Conference Team. Montevallo was one of just four teams to have two players on the team. Peterson was named the Preseason All-Conference first baseman while Dubberly received the nod at second base.
