Falcons Open Conference Play with a 74-65 Win over West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (8-8, 1-0 GSC East) ruined the University of West Georgia's (3-11, 0-1 GSC East) grand opening of their new 7,000 seat arena by beating the Wolves 74-65 inside The Coliseum. The Falcons were led by juniors Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Maryland) and Freddy Little (Raleigh, North Carolina). Flowers had a double-double while Little scored a game-high 18 points.

The Falcons led the entire game and used a strong first half to cement their first win the Gulf South Conference East Division play. UM opened with a 10-2 run over the first 3:55 and did not stop there as they built up as much as a 17-point lead in the first half. The Falcons headed into the locker room up 35-22.

The Falcons held onto a double-digit lead until the 10:56 mark of the second half as the Wolves began a late comeback. UWG cut the lead to just one-point at the 7:02 mark but that was as close as the Wolves would come as the Falcons slowly built their lead back up to 10 just six minutes later. The Falcons rolled to the victory, 74-65.

Flowers scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Little added his 18 points and came away just one rebound shy of a double-double with nine. Junior Marcus Lancaster (Grand Rapids, Michigan) had 14 points and four assists while senior Terrill Humphrey (St. Augustine, Florida) scored 13 points including three three-pointers.

The Falcons return to action Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. as they travel to the University of North Alabama.
