Falcons Offense Explodes in Victory over Carver Bible

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (9-10) had its offense and defense in tune as it shut down Carver Bible College (1-20) today (Jan. 17), 100-59. The Falcons had five players score in double figures and hit 12 three-point shots down the stretch. They forced CBC to turn the ball over 25 times and scored 25 points off those turnovers.

UM was led by junior Gerald January (Macon, Georgia) who scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. He also chipped in three blocked shots and was 7-of-8 from the field. Junior Jordan Hutchison (Hazel Green, Alabama) hit 4-of-5 three-point attempts en route to a 16-point performance while hitting 6-of-7 from the floor.

Senior Vernon Lewis (Dallas, Texas) scored 15 points and was 5-of-7 from the field while senior Andre McMillan (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) hit three three-pointers and scored 13 points. Freshman Mathew Nelson (Birmingham, Alabama) scored a career-high 13 points and was 4-of-6 from three-point range. He also dished out a team high six assists.

Senior Terrill Humphrey (St. Augustine, Florida) scored eight points grabbed six boards and dished out four assists in just 20 minutes of play.

The Falcons shot 60 percent from the field in the second half and out-shot the Cougars 57.4 percent to 33.3 percent overall.

The Cougars opened the game by going up 4-0 before the Falcons came roaring back to take the lead at 8-6. The Cougars had one last comeback as they hit a three pointer to put themselves up 9-8. That was the last they would see of the lead as Nelson answered with a three of his own to put the Falcons up 11-9.

UM led the rest of the way eventually gaining its biggest lead of the first half 41-22 at the 2:59 mark. They ended the half up 45-30.

The Falcons opened up the second half with a 10-1 run to extend their lead to 24. The lead would remain around the 24 point mark most of the second half until with 5:40 left in the game and the Falcons up by 23 UM went on a 23-5 run to end the game, 100-59.

The Falcons return to action Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. as they host the University of West Florida in Gulf South Conference action.
