Falcons Even Up Record with Win Over West Florida, 79-69
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (10-10, 2-2 GSC East) evened up both its overall record and conference record with a 79-69 win over the University of West Florida (9-8, 1-3 GSC East). The Falcons pulled away late to take the conference victory away from the Argos. Junior Freddy Little (Raleigh, North Carolina) scored a game-high 24 points while junior Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Maryland) chipped in his seventh double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior Terrill Humphrey (St. Augustine, Florida) scored 14 points while dishing out a team-high five assists. The Falcons were nearly flawless from the charity stripe hitting 12 of 13 attempts while Flowers was 8-of-8.
The Falcons out-shot the visiting Argonauts 48.3 percent to 38.7 percent.
The game was a back-and-forth battle from the beginning with neither team gaining more than a seven point lead. The Argos took the largest lead in the first half at the 8:29 mark leading 25-18. The Falcons quickly battled back cutting the advantage to just one at the 6:24 mark. The Falcons then built up a six-point lead of their own with once again was quickly taken away as both teams ended the period knotted at 36.
The second half began much like the first with neither team able to take control. With 4:13 left on the clock and the Falcons leading by just three point UM went on a 8-2 run over the next three minutes to lead 77-67 with just 52 seconds left on the clock. Both teams added two points over the final seconds to end the game 79-69.
The Falcons return to action Sunday, Jan. 25 at 3:00 p.m. as they host Valdosta State University in Gulf South Conference action.
