STARKVILLE, Miss. - With the regular season looming around the corner the University of Montevallo men's basketball team headed to Starkville, Mississippi for an exhibition with Division I opponent Mississippi State. The two teams battled for 40 minutes with the Bulldogs coming out on top 88-59.

The Falcons gained some valuable experience playing against a stout Southeastern Conference opponent. The Falcons hung with the Bulldogs throughout the first half entering the locker room down 36-26.

The Bulldogs came out firing in the second half as they connected on a number of fast break dunks and took the wind out of Montevallo's sails. The Falcons continued to fight but were unable to close the gap dropping the contest 88-59.

Junior transfers Marcus Lancaster (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and Freddy Little (Raleigh, North Carolina) led the squad in scoring each contributing 10 points. Junior Adam Krych (Whippany, New Jersey) also did well in his debut as a Falcon dropping nine points while leading the Falcons with five free throws.

On the boards the Falcons were led by juniors Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Maryland) and Anthony Brown (Birmingham, Alabama) who pulled down nine and six, respectively.

The Bulldogs had five players in double-figures led by preseason All-SEC pick Jarvis Varnado who had 17 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks.

The Falcons will open up their regular season Friday, Nov. 7 at 4 p.m. as they travel to Lake Buena Vista, Florida to compete in the Disney's Division II Tip-off Classic. Their first opponent will be the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
