Falcons Even Out Record with Home Opening Win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (2-2) hit 18 three-pointers, which ranks second all-time in school history, en route to a 86-66 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic (0-1). The Falcons used an outstanding performance from junior guard Marcus Lancaster (Grand Rapids, Michigan) who scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out eight assists. Lancaster was 4-for-4 from three-point range and only missed three shots all game.

The Falcons leading scorer was junior Freddy Little (Raleigh, North Carolina) who had 22 points including six three-pointers. He also grabbed five rebounds and handed out four assists. Three other players posted double-digit numbers including senior Terrill Humphrey (St. Augustine, Florida), senior Andre McMillan (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) and junior Anthony Brown (Birmingham, Alabama) who had 16, 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Junior Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Maryland) cleaned up the boards with nine rebounds while Brown chipped in seven and Lancaster grabbed six.

The Falcons started out slow as they only scored 13 points in the first ten minutes but slowly grew a halftime lead of five, 39-34. The second half remained close until the Falcons went on an 11-2 run with 11:49 left in the game to take a 61-52 lead. A few minutes later they sealed the victory with an impressive 17-5 run that included six three-pointers.

UM outshot the Sailfish 46.3 percent to 36.4 and did most of their damage from beyond the arc as they hit 47.4 percent from downtown and held PBA to just 29.2. The NCAA moved the men's three-point line back this season and it didn't seem to affect the UM shooters as they nailed 18 long-range jumpers.

The Falcons return to action tomorrow, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. as they host Shaw University in the final game of the UM Coca-Cola Classic.
