Falcons Overcome Sluggish Start Win 80-71
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (3-2) came out slow Sunday night (Nov. 16) falling behind 18-6 to visiting Shaw University (0-2). The Falcons responded with a number of runs and eventually won 80-71. Junior Anthony Brown (Birmingham, Alabama) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Falcons, after falling behind 18-6, went on a 9-0 run to cut the Shaw lead to just three points. They continued to keep it close until the five-minute mark as they went on a four and half minute 13-0 run to take an 11-point lead with 39 seconds left in the half. Shaw was able to cut the lead to 10 but trailed 36-26 at the half.
In the second half, the Falcons built a 17-point lead but Shaw began to chip away as the Bears took their first lead of the second half at the 4:34 mark as they led 66-65. The Falcons once again responded with a late second half 13-3 run to seal the 80-71 win.
Senior Terrill Humphrey (St. Augustine, Florida) led the way with16 points while juniors Freddy Little (Raleigh, North Carolina) and Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Maryland) chipped in 12 points each. Flowers also grabbed eight rebounds falling just short of a double-double.
The Falcons shot 50.0 percent from the field while holding Shaw to 40.0.
The Falcons return to action Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 6:00 p.m. as they travel to Flagler College.
