Falcons Hold Off Late Run in Win over Flagler, 73-70

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (4-2)  once again stumbled out of the gates but were able to overcome its slow start to win 73-70 at Flagler College (1-2). The Falcons fell behind 10-0 before scoring their first basket of the game almost seven minutes into the first half. UM was led by St. Augustine native Terrill Humphrey who was playing in his hometown for the first time since joining the Montevallo squad. Humphrey had a team-high 17 points and four assists.

After falling behind 10-0 the Falcons quickly responded scoring 20 points in the next four minutes to take a seven-point lead. They would build that lead to as much as nine points before the Saints began a comeback of their own. The lead was cut to one with 1:08 left in the half but the Falcons responded scoring the final five points of the half to take a 39-33 lead into the locker room.

To begin the second half the Saints once again came out strong taking the lead just five minutes in. The Falcons responded by taking the lead back on the next possession and never looked back as they led the rest of the way. With 1:50 left in the game the Falcons had their biggest lead of the night 70-60. The Saints then went on a 10-3 run to close the final 1:50 to play but it was not enough as the Falcons made a few clutch free throws in the end to win.

The Saints lost only once at home last season and returned four of their five starters who lost only seven games the entire year.

Junior Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Maryland) led the Falcons in rebounding with 10 while junior Anthony Brown (Birmingham, Alabama) and senior Brian Carlyle (Atlanta, Georgia) each chipped in eight.

The Falcons scoring leaders were Humphrey with 17, senior Andre McMillan (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) with 13, junior Marcus Lancaster (Grand Rapids, Michigan) with 12 and Brown with 11.

The Falcons return to action Monday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. as they host Delta State University.
