Little Leads Falcons to Victory, 62-59

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Led by junior Freddy Little (Raleigh, North Carolina), the University of Montevallo men's basketball team (6-3) picked up another late win this time over Cumberland University (7-3), 62-59. Little scored a game-high 22 points and made two key steals in the final minute to secure a three-point victory.

The game was back-and-forth with neither team gaining much of an advantage. With 1:55 left in the contest Thomas Douglas of Cumberland hit a three-pointer to give the Bulldogs a 59-56 advantage. On the next possession Little found himself in trouble in the lane and hit a fade-away jumper of the glass to cut the lead to one. On the Bulldogs next possession Little jumped a pass near mid-court and streaked for a fast break lay-up but was fouled in the process which caused him to hit his two free throws giving the Falcons a 60-59 advantage.

The two following possessions were fruitless for both teams until with 30 seconds left on the clock Little again made a steal and called timeout to give the Falcons the ball with a one-point lead and the shot clock turned off. The Bulldogs decided to foul senior Terrill Humphrey (St. Augustine, Florida) who went on to make his two free throws and cement the Falcon victory.

The Falcons were led by Little who had 22 points, three assists and five steals. Junior Marcus Lancaster (Grand Rapids, Michigan) wearing his new number 10 jersey scored 11 points and dished out three assists, Junior Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Maryland) was the final Falcon in double-digits with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Humphrey chipped in nine points.

The Falcons major advantage was on the free throw line where they hit 11-of-13 while the Bulldogs went 6-of-11.

The Falcons return to action Friday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. as they host the University of Arkansas-Monticello as part of their Winter Tournament.
