Falcons Fall in Rematch with Flagler, 70-66
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (6-5) fell behind early and struggled to get back in the game late falling 70-66 to Flagler College (4-6). Flagler got 36 points off the bench from Jon Henderson who only missed two shots from the floor.
The Falcons found themselves up 7-5 just five minutes into the game but Flagler quickly went on a 9-0 run to open up a lead for themselves. Still down seven with 9:01 left on the clock the Falcons responded with a 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead to just one. Flagler responded once again going on a 13-1 run to pen up a 13 point lead with just 3:55 left in the first. The Falcons were able to cut that lead to just seven at halftime, 31-24.
UM opened the second half strong cutting the Saints lead to just one four minutes into the half. Flagler would not relinquish the lead as they built a small gap between the two teams. The Falcons eventually took a two-point lead at the 8:00 minute mark but could not hang on as the Saints went on to win 70-66.
The Falcons were led by junior Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Maryland) who had 16 points and eight boards. Senior Brian Carlyle (Atlanta, Georgia) had 15 points, five rebounds and two blocks while senior Terrill Humphrey (St. Augustine, Florida) chipped in 13 points off of 5-of-7 shooting.
The Falcons out-scored the Saints 42-39 in the second half but could not overcome their seven-point first half deficit.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to Delta State University.
