Falcons Revenge Bid Falls Short at Delta State, 89-79

CLEVELAND, Miss. - Trying to avenge a 99-87 loss earlier this season at home, the University of Montevallo men's basketball team (6-6) headed west for a rematch with Delta State University (7-2). The Statesmen used a strong first half to gain control of the game and eventually won, 89-79. The Falcons out-scored the Statesmen 49-46 in the second half but could not overcome a 13-point first half deficit.

Junior Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Maryland) had a huge double-double with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Flowers was 7-of-10 from the floor and a near-perfect 9-for-10 at the free throw line. Senior Terrill Humphrey (St. Augustine, Florida) added 14 points while junior Freddy Little (Raleigh, North Carolina) chipped in 13.

Senior Brian Carlyle (Atlanta, Georgia) scored 12 points and six rebounds while junior Marcus Lancaster (Grand Rapids, Michigan) added 10 points and a team-high five assists.

The Falcons made the most of their free trips to the free throw line hitting 20-of-25 while the Statesmen only went 15-of-25.

The first half was back-and-forth in the opening minutes until at the 12:37 mark the Statesmen went on a 17-4 run over the next 5:41 to open up a 32-17 lead. They held onto that 15-point lead most of the first half and ended the opening stanza up 43-30.

The Falcons battled to get back into the game cutting the lead to just seven with 1:45 to play but the Statesmen scored under pressure and held off the Falcon run.

The Falcons return to action Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to Columbus State University to take on Mars Hill University in a neutral site game.
