Falcons Strong First Half Leads to 76-63 Victory over Miles

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (2-0) continued its hot start to the 2009-10 season with a dominating 76-63 win on the road at Miles College (0-1). The Falcons opened the game with a 27-1 run and held Miles without a field goal for the first 9:49 of the game. The Falcons were led by senior Freddy Little (Raleigh, N.C./Bunn) who scored 22 points.
Junior's Cecil Coleman (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) and Tauras Dortch (Ensley, Ala./Ramsay) each chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds. Senior's Gerald January (Macon, Ga./Westside) and MarkPlaza (San Diego, Calif./Chula Vista) both had nine points. Plaza added a team-high six assists, four steals and seven rebounds.
The Falcons out-shot Miles 46.0 percent to 39.3 percent from the floor and 31.3 percent to 23.1 percent from three point range.
The Falcons never trailed in the game as they dominated from start to finish. Miles tried to comeback in the second half but were held off by the Falcon defense who kept a double-digit lead the entire second stanza.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Nov. 28 at 2:00 p.m. as they travel to the University of West Florida for its Thanksgiving Classic. The Falcons will take on Lynn University in the first game.
