Falcons Defeat Argos on the Road, 94-72

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (4-0) continued its win streak with a victory in the final game of University of West Florida Thanksgiving Classic against host UWF (2-3). The Falcons defeated the Argonauts 94-72 as they used a strong transition game to gain a 34-6 advantage in points off turnovers. UM was led by seniors Freddy Little (Raleigh, N.C./Bunn) and Gerald January (Macon, Ga./Westside). Little led the team in points with 20 while January had a huge double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Junior Cecil Coleman (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) came up just short of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Senior MarkPlaza (San Diego, Calif./Chula Vista) led the team in assists with six while scoring 12 points. Little also chipped in five assists.

The Falcons had 14 steals which led to 23 West Florida turnovers which turned into a 34-6 advantage in points off turnovers. UM also dominated the paint outscoring the Argos 42-28 inside.

The first half was a very even period with neither team able to gain much of a lead. The Falcons fell behind early but were able to gain the lead midway through the period and held on the rest of the half ending the first stanza up 38-32.

The Falcons opened up the second half with a 10-2 run to open up a 48-34 lead. UM's lead only dropped below double-digits one more time throughout the game as the Falcons dominated the second half. The Falcons largest lead came on the final basket of the game as Matt Nelson (Birmingham, Ala./Ramsay) hit a three-pointer to give the Falcons a 94-72 lead.

The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. as they host Concordia College-Selma inside BankTrust Arena on the campus of the University of Montevallo.
