Undefeated Falcons Dominate Concordia-Selma, 100-67
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (5-0) moved its record to 5-0 as they dominated visiting Concordia College-Selma, 100-67. The Falcons had all but two of their 15 players score and had all 15 see the floor for at least four minutes of action. UM was led by junior guard Tauras Dortch (Ensley, Ala./Ramsay) who scored 19 points, picked up five steals and dished out four assists.
The Falcons forced 30 turnovers which led to 33 points and dominated in the paint outscoring the Hornets 56-28.
Senior Freddy Little (Raleigh, N.C./Bunn) had 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals while senior Gerald January (Macon, Ga./Westside) had 12 points, eight rebounds and a team-high four blocks.
Junior Chauncey Thompson (Chattanooga, Tenn./Notre Dame) was the only other Falcon in double digits with 10 points in six minutes of action. He was a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor and 2-for-2 at the charity stripe. Senior MarkPlaza (San Diego, Calif./Chula Vista) had eight points, a team-high six assists and three steals. He was also 4-for-4 from the field. Junior Cecil Coleman (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) also was perfect from the field going 4-for-4 with eight points and five rebounds.
Sophomores Ryan Westbrooks (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) and Patrick Morris (Baunach, Germany/Enterprise) chipped in eight and seven points, respectively.
The Falcons never trailed in the game and jumped out to the early lead but things really started to open up when the Falcons went on a 10-0 run with 3:55 left in the first half to gain a 40-20 lead. UM closed out the first half up 45-25.
UM opened up the second half with a 12-2 run which extended their lead to 30. The Falcons lead would remain around the 30 mark for the rest of the half as UM dominated play. The second half ended with the Falcons up 100-67 which matched their largest lead of the game.
The Falcons will return to action Friday, Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. as they host the UM Coca-Cola Classic. The University of West Alabama, Shaw University and Eckerd College will all be participating in the two-day event.
