UM Remains Undefeated After Dominating Victory, 104-76
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (8-0) continued its hot start picking up a 104-76 win over visiting Carver Bible College (0-14). The Falcons were led by sophomore Ryan Westbrooks (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) who scored a career-high 20 points as he hit six three-pointers.
Junior Cecil Coleman (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) was second on the team in scoring with 15 points and eight rebounds. He was nearly perfect from the floor hitting 6-of-7 shots and he remains one of the league leaders in free throw percentage as he hit 3-of-3 and moved his season total to 20-of-21. Senior Gerald January (Macon, Ga./Westside) had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and also led the team with four steals.
Senior Freddy Little (Raleigh, N.C./Bunn) had 14 points while junior Tauras Dortch (Ensley, Ala./Ramsay) had 13. The final Falcon in double-digits was sophomore Patrick Morris (Baunach, Germany/Enterprise) who had 10 points off of 4-of-5 shooting. Senior MarkPlaza (San Diego, Calif./Chula Vista) and junior Demarcus Richard (Portland, Ore./Jefferson) each dished out eight assists to lead the team.
The Falcons fell behind early in the game as Carver jumped out to a 5-0 lead. UM finally gained the lead at the 12:46 mark as they took a 12-10 lead. Up 21-17 the Falcons went on a 16-2 run to take a 37-19 lead with just 5:00 minutes left in the first half. UM controlled the rest of the half as they went into the break up 54-33.
The second half was all Falcons as they built their lead up to 38 with 10:09 left in the game. Carver was able to cut that lead by 10 in the final 10 minutes as the game ended 104-76.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. as they host Miles College.
