Falcons Ranked No. 20 in Most Recent NABC Division II Coaches Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Montevallo men's basketball team (9-0) moved up to No. 20 in the most recent National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Rankings. The Falcons are off to their best start since the 2005-06 season when they began 10-0. UM is one of just two Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the most recent poll. Fellow PBC member Augusta State University is ranked third with a record of 7-0.
This is the first time the Falcons have been ranked since March 6, 2007 when the Falcons ended the 2006-07 season ranked No. 13.
The Falcons are currently outscoring their opponents by an average of 18.8 points per game and are being led by senior Freddy Little (Raleigh, N.C./Bunn) and junior Tauras Dortch (Ensley, Ala./Ramsay). Little is averaging 15.3 points per game while Dortch has 15.1 ppg. Fellow starters Gerald January (Macon, Ga./Westside) and Cecil Coleman (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Tech) are also scoring in double-figures. January averages 11.6 ppg. while Coleman scores 12.1 ppg.
The Falcons hit the road this week to take on the University of West Florida for the second time this season. The Falcons defeated the Argonauts on the road earlier this year, 94-72. Little led the team in points with 20 while January had a huge double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
