MORROW, Ga. – Senior guard D.J. Rivera (Philadelphia, Pa./Binghamton University) of the 22nd-ranked University of Montevallo men’s basketball team was named Daktronics First Team All-Region.
Rivera leads the PBC in steals with 2.5 per game and is second in scoring with 21.7 points per game. He currently ranks in the top 10 in scoring in the NCAA and top-10 in steals. He has scored in double-figures in all but one game in a UM uniform and has 19 20-plus point performances this season. He recently broke the UM NCAA record for free throws made in a game with 14 and free throw percentage in a game going 14-of-14 from the charity stripe. He is nearing the UM single season scoring record as he sits at 630 points and needs just 64 more to tie the record set by Greg Brown during the 2006-07 season.
Rivera will now go to the All-American ballot which will be voted on later this month.
Rivera and the Falcons return to action this Saturday, March 10 at 6:00 p.m. as they host Barton College in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Southeast Regional.
