Rivera Named PBC Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Senior guard D.J. Rivera (Philadelphia, Pa./Binghamton University) of the University of Montevallo men’s basketball team (9-1) was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week. Rivera helped lead the Falcons to a pair of victories this past week. He is the first UM men’s basketball player to be named Player of the Week this season.

Rivera continued his hot start to the season as he averaged 26.5 points per game while shooting over 62 percent from the field this week in a pair of Montevallo wins. He opened with 27 points and 5 rebounds in a conference victory over PBC West Division foe Columbus State. Rivera then scored 26 points in a 77-65 win over Miles College. He scored 9 of the final 10 Falcon points in that game to help keep the Bears at bay. Rivera continues to lead the PBC in scoring averaging 24.8 points a game and now has had four-straight 25-plus point performances in a row. For the year he is shooting 52.8 percent from the field.

Rivera and the rest of the Falcons return to action this Saturday, Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. as they travel to the University of West Florida for a two-game tournament.
