TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team dropped its second consecutive heartbreaker on the road in a 68-65 loss Dec. 4 to Tuskegee University at the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
A floater by Javier McKinney with 5.1 seconds remaining broke a 65-65 tie and lifted the home team to victory. Following a technical free throw by McKinney after senior Drico Hightower attempted to call a timeout for the Falcons who didn't have any remaining, Montevallo had one final shot with the ball and a three-point deficit in the final seconds.
However, Hightower's attempted pass to May on the perimeter for a 3-pointer was intercepted by Tuskegee in the final seconds.
The Falcons (3-3) erased a 61-52 deficit with an 11-0 run over the final four minutes, taking a 63-61 lead with 1:20 remaining following a 3-pointer by Jonas Brown, before Tuskegee escaped with the victory.
Hightower led Montevallo with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor while also grabbing nine rebounds.
Senior Marvin Fitzgerald added 15 points and a team-high 12 rebounds as he recorded his fourth double-double of the season.
Senior Jonas Brown contributed 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc and a 4-of-4 performance from the free-throw line to go along with nine rebounds. Sophomore Troran Brown finished with 11 points and a team-high seven assists.
