Falcons Close Out Regular Season at Bearcat Classic
GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of Montevallo men’s golf team closed out the 2009-10 regular season with a 12th-place finish at the Lander Bearcat Golf Classic. The Falcons were led by sophomore Gonzalo Gambertoglio (Cordoba, Argentina/Instituto General San Martin) who shot a team best three round score of 220. He was just four over par. Sophomore Aaron Ebert (Huron, Ohio/St. Mary's Central Catholic) and senior Jon Henderson (Rainsville, Ala./Plainview) were just one stroke behind Gambertoglio with 221.
Gambertoglio hit a season-low 68 in the second round of the tournament matching Henderson’s 68 from the Laker Collegiate back in September. Ebert had the third lowest round of the season in his second round of the tournament with a 69.
Falcons other finishers included junior Lee Callaway (Leeds, Ala./Leeds), senior Tripp Cash (Troy, Ala./Pike) and freshman Austin Murphey (Opelika, Ala./Lee-Scott Academy).
The Falcons fell to five Peach Belt Conference schools while defeating one. Lander won the event followed by Armstrong Atlantic and Georgia College who tied for second. Clayton State finished sixth while Georgia Southwestern came in at 10th. The Falcons defeated North Georgia by 25 strokes who finished in 14th.
The Falcons will return to action in two weeks as they take part in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament held at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.
