Falcons Finish Fifteenth at State Farm Laker Invitational
HAMPTON, Ga. - The University of Montevallo men's golf opened up the 2009-10 season with a fifteenth-place finish at the State Farm Laker Invitational hosted by Clayton State University. The Falcons competed against a field full of nationally-ranked teams including No. 24 Newberry College who won the tournament.
The Falcons top finisher was senior Jon Henderson (Rainsville, Ala./Plainview) who shot a two-round score of 140. He finished tied for eighth among many top golfers and shot a team best 68 in the first round of the tournament. Senior Tripp Cash (Troy, Ala./Pike) finished second on the team and 45th overall with a two round score of 148. Freshman Austin Murphey (Opelika, Ala./Lee-Scott Academy) finished third for the Falcons and 67th overall with a score of 152.
Sophomores Aaron Ebert (Huron, Ohio/St. Mary's Central Catholic) and Gonzalo Gambertoglio (Cordoba, Argentina/Instituto General San Martin) rounded out the Montevallo scores finishing 77th and 79th, respectively.
The Falcons overall team score was 593 just four strokes behind 14th-place finished USC-Aiken. Other notable teams in the field were No. 1 Georgia College and State University, No. 2 Barry University, No. 3 Columbus State University, No. 4 Lynn University, No. 7 Florida Southern College, No. 16 Clayton State University and No. 17 Lander University.
The Falcons will return to action Monday, Oct. 19 at the Destin Invitational in Destin, Fla.
