Montevallo Golf Helps Build Home for Local Family
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s and women’s golf teams reached out and embraced the local community by volunteering to support the Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit Christian housing ministry that builds quality, affordable houses and also revitalizes existing homes. Their central aim is to encourage family stability and promote self-sufficiency, while endorsing educational achievement and responsible citizenship.
The men’s and women’s golf team was rewarded with the opportunity of meeting Melissa Staffney and her three children, Brianna, Brannon and Brayden while performing construction on their new home. Melissa was born in Birmingham and raised in Wilton, Ala. She graduated from Montevallo High School with an Advanced Diploma, then attended Jefferson State Community College. She is employed by AGC Automotive Americas Company, where she has been an assembly worker for over four years. Melissa and her children are members of Mount Olive Missionary Church.
This was a truly humbling experience for the Falcons as they
assisted with construction tasks ranging from framing to
landscaping in the building of the Staffney home in Wilton.
The players worked for eight and a half hours, from 7:30 a.m.- 4:00
p.m., in what they deemed was a truly enriching experience.
