CALERA, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's golf team hosted the Full Moon Bar-B-Que Montevallo Intercollegiate at Timberline Golf Course in Calera, Ala. The Falcons split into two squads to compete in the event and finished third and fifth out of the six team field. Junior Andrew Lowery (Decatur, Ala./Wallace State C.C.) led the Falcons finishing third overall with a two-round score of 143 which was just one over par.
Sophomore Joe Haupt (Birmingham, Ala./Shades Mountain Christian) finished tied for 10th overall with a score of 149 while senior Aaron Ebert (Huron, Ohio/St. Mary's Central Catholic) rounded out the top-three with a 15th-place finish with a score of 152. The final two golfers on the Falcons third place finishing team were junior Mariano Lepori (Posadas, Argentina) and freshman Andres Morales (Cuernavaca, Mexico/Colegio Marymount) who finished tied for 21st and tied for 29th, respectively.
For the fifth-place Montevallo squad senior Gonzalo Gambertoglio (Cordoba, Argentina/Instituto General San Martin) led the way as he tied for 16th overall with a score of 154. Freshman Jared Ebert (Huron, Ohio/St. Mary's Central Catholic) and senior Ruwaldt Viljoen (Johannesburg, South Africa/Dainfern College) were just four strokes back as they tied for 23rd overall.
The final UM golfer was junior Austin Murphey (Opelika, Ala./Lee-Scott Academy) who finished tied for 27th.
North Georgia College and State University won the event with a team score of 578. Catawba College finished second with a 592 while UM finished third with a 601. Wilson McDonald of the University of Alabama in Birmingham won the event with a five-under par 137.
The Falcons will be back in action Oct. 10-11 at the Indian Bayou Classic in Destin, Fla.
