Sixty-Five Montevallo Student-Athletes Named to 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo athletic department had 65 student-athletes named to the 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll. Men’s soccer led all Montevallo teams with 13 members being named to the list. The Presidential Honor Roll recognizes all student-athletes at the 13 PBC member institutions who had a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.

Esser, McIntosh and Rosato Attend NCAA Career in Sports Forum
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Three University of Montevallo student-athletes were among 400 student-athletes from around the country who attended the recent NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis, Indiana. Men’s soccer student-athletes David Esser (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain) and Austin McIntosh (Sheffield, England/All Saint Catholic) along with women’s soccer student-athlete Kristin Rosato (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) attended the event. The NCAA Career in Sports Forum is a four day event through which selected student-athletes explore and get educated on careers in sports, with a primary focus on collegiate athletics. The conference lasted from May 11 till May 14.

Annual UM Athletic Awards Announced
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Eight of the top student-athletes at the University of Montevallo were honored with the announcement of the athletic department’s annual awards for 2009-10. The announcement came at the annual athletic awards banquet held on the campus of the University of Montevallo last evening (April 28).

Three Falcons Named to All-Southeast Region Squads
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team was awarded three spots on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-Southeast Region Teams. Juniors Austin McIntosh (Sheffield, England/All Saint Catholic), Milan Pualic (Subotica, Serbia/Srednja Ekonosmka Skola School) and Nathanial Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) were all named to the third team.

Three Falcons Named to PBC All-Academic Teams
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team was awarded three players on the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Teams. Junior Milan Pualic (Subotica, Serbia/Srednja Ekonosmka Skola School) was named First Team All-Academic while juniors Alex Ghoja (Elkmont, Ala./Bob Jones) and James Steer (Sheffield, England/Westfield School) picked up Second Team nods.

Falcons End Peach Belt Tournament Run with Heartbreaking Loss to Flagler, 3-2
EVANS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (10-7-1) ended its Peach Belt Tournament run with a tough 3-2 loss to No. 1 seed Flagler College (14-5-1). The Falcons were led by sophomore Matt Maughn (Toronto, Ontario/St. Marcellinus) and junior Milan Pualic (Subotica, Serbia/Srednja Ekonosmka Skola School) who each scored goals for UM.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (10-6-1, 5-3-0 PBC) was awarded two players on the All-Peach Belt Conference Teams. Junior Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) was named First Team All-PBC while junior Milan Pualic (Subotica, Serbia/Srednja Ekonosmka Skola School) picked up a Second Team nod.

UM Advances to Semifinals of Peach Belt Tournament with Overtime Victory
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (10-6-1) used a 2-1 overtime victory to advance to the semifinals of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Falcons defeated visiting Francis Marion University (11-5-3) 5:46 into the first overtime off a goal from freshman Arran McCarthy (Lancashire, England/Preston North End).

Falcons Ready to Begin their First PBC Conference Tournaments
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Both the University of Montevallo men’s and women’s soccer teams have qualified for their first Peach Belt Conference Tournament in the two programs histories. 2009 marked the first season for the Falcons in the tough Peach Belt Conference and both teams have excelled in their new conference making it to the conference tournament. The men will host Francis Marion University tomorrow, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. on Varsity Field while the women travel to Columbus State University for a 5 p.m. central time kick-off.

Late Comeback Downs Falcons, 3-1
ROME, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (9-6-1) entered halftime against Shorter College (10-5-1) with a 1-0 lead but after three SC second goals the Falcons fell 3-1. The Falcons were led by junior Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) who scored his 10th goal of the season just 17 minutes into game.

Foster Named PBC Player of the Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Junior forward Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) of the University of Montevallo men's soccer team (9-5-1, 5-3-0 PBC) was named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week. This is the first PBC Player of the Week honor for both the team and Foster.

Men’s Soccer Honors Select Faculty and Staff
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Unfortunately due to severe weather conditions that cancelled the men’s soccer match against Union University on October 15, the men’s soccer Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night was also cancelled. It has become a tradition here at the University of Montevallo to honor those that contribute to the student-athlete experience in ways other than on the playing field. Each member of the men’s soccer team has selected a faculty or staff member who has made an impact on them academically and personally this year or consistently throughout their time here at Montevallo.

Second Half Goal Lifts Falcons over Lander, 2-1
GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (9-5-1, 5-3-0 PBC) used goals from junior Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) and freshman Arran McCarthy (Lancashire, England/Preston North End) to defeat Lander University (8-5-1, 5-1-1 PBC) who had previously been unbeaten in the Peach Belt Conference. The loss was the first for the Bearcats since Oct. 7 when they lost in double-overtime to Anderson.

Falcons Rally From Behind in 3-1 Victory
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (8-5-1, 4-3-0 PBC) fell behind early in its final regular season home match of the year against North Georgia College and State University (5-8-0, 1-5-0 PBC) but used strong offensive pressure to turn things around and capture a 3-1 victory. The Falcons were led by junior Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) who scored a pair of late goals including the game winner in the 81st minute of play. The match also marked Senior Night for three Falcons including Cruyff Dos Remedios (Mississauga, Ontario/Cardinal Newman), Lucas Manzoli (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Friburgo) and Chris Stanfield (Prattville, Ala./Prattville).

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (7-5-1, 3-3-0 PBC) evened out its conference record with a 2-0 win over Georgia Southwestern State University. The Falcons used two second half goals to down GSW.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team’s match against Tusculum College scheduled for Oct. 28 has been cancelled due to a conflict in the Pioneers schedule. The Falcons will return to action this Saturday as they take on Georgia Southwestern State University at home at 5:30 p.m.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team’s match against Union University originally scheduled for tonight (Oct. 15) has been cancelled due to poor field conditions. The Falcons will return to action this Saturday as they take on Georgia Southwestern State University at home at 5:30 p.m.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (6-5-1, 2-3-0 PBC) dominated USC Aiken (4-7-1, 1-3-0 PBC) en route to a 4-0 victory. Junior goalkeeper Robert Mueller (Kileen, Texas/Kileen) made six saves in the shutout win while junior Milan Pualic (Subotica, Serbia/Srednja Ekonosmka Skola School) scored the gamewinner just 14 minutes into the first half.

Falcons Fall on the Road, 2-0
MORROW, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (5-5-1, 1-3-0 PBC) dropped a tough 2-0 loss on the road against Clayton State University (7-4, 3-1 PBC), 2-0. The Falcons gave up a late goal at the end of the first half and the Lakers scored another midway through the second to pull away with the victory.

Falcons Move Saturday’s Games to Sunday
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s and women’s soccer teams have moved their Saturday matches against USC Aiken to Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and 12:00 p.m., respectively. The Falcons will still hold their For The Cure/Pink Polo Day at the games on Sunday. Please come and show your support for the Falcons in their efforts to support the cause to find a cure for breast cancer.

Falcons to Host For the Cure Event on Saturday
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the University of Montevallo women’s soccer team is doing their part to increase awareness across campus and in the community by hosting a fundraising event. For the Cure – Pink Polo Day will be the theme of this Saturdays (10/10) doubleheader against USC-Aiken. All spectators are encouraged to wear pink to visually show their support for breast cancer awareness to the match. The women’s soccer team will also be taking the field in pink jerseys and playing with a pink ball.

Two Second Half Goals Lead to Falcons Victory, 2-0
FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (5-4-1, 1-2-0 PBC) picked up its first Peach Belt Conference victory in school history 2-0 over host Francis Marion University (5-3-2, 1-1-1 PBC). The Falcons got a pair of second half goals to upend the Patriots 2-0. Sophomore Phil Jackson (Lincolnshire, England/Queen Elizabeth's) and junior Alex Ghoja (Elkmont, Ala./Bob Jones) provided the much-needed firepower to defeat the Patriots.

Falcons Downed on the Road, 2-1
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (4-4-1) fell to the University of Alabama-Huntsville, 2-1, on the road. UM fell behind early and had a player sent off in the 24th minute of the game which caused the team to play a man down the rest of the way. The Falcons lone goal came from sophomore Phil Jackson (Lincolnshire, England/Queen Elizabeth's) off a penalty kick in the 86th minute of play.

Falcons Drop Double-Overtime Heartbreaker, 4-3
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (4-3-1, 0-2 PBC) lost a heartbreaker at home to UNC Pembroke (4-4-1, 1-1 PBC) in double-overtime, 4-3. The Falcons led 3-0 at halftime but a stingy UNC Pembroke team fought its way back into the game and tied it up with less than four minutes left in regulation to push it to overtime.

Falcons Shutout No. 25 West Florida, 1-0
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (4-2-1) shutdown the high-powered offense of No. 25 University of West Florida (4-2-1) 1-0. The Falcons used a strong performance from junior goalkeeper Robert Mueller (Kileen, Texas/Kileen) and got the game-winning goal from fellow junior Petar Triva (Split, Croatia/Second Language Gymnasium) with three minutes left in the first half.

Falcons Rearrange Schedule
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team announced some changes to its upcoming schedule. The Falcons will travel to Tusculum College on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. and will move the Shorter College game originally scheduled for that date to Thursday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. The Tusculum game is a make-up for the game rained out this past Saturday.

Falcons Battle to 2-2 Tie at Newberry
NEWBERRY, S.C. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (3-2-1) battled to a tough 2-2 tie on the road at Newberry College (1-4-1). The Falcons out shot Newberry 24-18 en route to the tie. The Falcons were led by junior Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) who scored one of Montevallo’s goals and assisted on another.

Falcons Fall after Early Red Card, 2-1
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (3-2, 0-1 PBC) dropped its first ever Peach Belt Conference game on the road at Flagler College (1-2-1, 1-0 PBC), 2-1. A red card just 34 minutes into the contest caused the Falcons to play a man down for over half the game but the Falcons were still able to put up a fight.

UM Slams Moccasins, 6-1
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (3-1) returned to its winning ways with a 6-1 thumping of Florida Southern College (0-1). The Falcons were led by junior Petar Triva (Split, Croatia/Second Language Gymnasium) who picked up his first hat trick as a Falcon. UM dominated play throughout the contest and held FSC to just six shots and two on goal.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (2-1) suffered its first loss of the 2009 season as it dropped a hard-fought battle with Eckerd College (1-1), 2-1. The Falcons dominated much of the play but could not find the equalizer late in the match.

Falcons Continue to Roll with 4-0 Shutout
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (2-0) continued its strong play early in the 2009 season with a 4-0 shutout victory over Concordia College-Selma (0-1). Junior Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) scored two goals to lead the Falcons to victory and now has three goals on the season.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (1-0) flew past Faulkner University (1-1) in the Falcons season opener, 5-1. The Falcons had five different players score goals en route to a dominating victory. Juniors James Steer (Sheffield, England/Westfield School) and Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) each had a goal and an assist to lead the team with three points each.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Adam Frazer has been named the new men’s soccer assistant coach at the University of Montevallo. Frazer becomes the first full-time assistant coach in the programs’ history.

Falcons Picked to Finish Fourth in PBC Preseason Poll
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team was selected to finish fourth by Peach Belt Conference coaches today (Aug. 13). The Falcons received a vote for first, three for second, two for third, one for fifth and a single vote for sixth. The Patriots of Francis Marion and the Bearcats of Lander University were tied for the league lead in the poll released today, marking the first time since the inaugural season of 1992 that two teams have shared the votes.

Falcon Soccer Travels to England
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team is making a historic trip for the program. For the first time since the programs inception in 1994 the team will travel overseas. The Falcons are spending 10 days training on foreign soil. Throughout the trip the team will keep their fans updated with a blog written by some of the players and coaches. Maloney Signs Professional Contract with Harrogate Town Football Club
HARROGATE, England – Former All-American soccer standout at the University of Montevallo, Jonathan Maloney (West Yorkshire, England) has signed a professional contract with Harrogate Town Football Club of the Blue Square North League in Harrogate, England. Maloney and his new teammates wrapped up their preseason schedule undefeated with a 2-0-4 record.
