Falcons Fall after Early Red Card, 2-1

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The University of Montevallo men's soccer team (3-2, 0-1 PBC) dropped its first ever Peach Belt Conference game on the road at Flagler College (1-2-1, 1-0 PBC), 2-1. A red card just 34 minutes into the contest caused the Falcons to play a man down for over half the game but the Falcons were still able to put up a fight.

Flagler scored the opening blow 32 minutes into the match as Mack Hough used a pass from Ryan Endrizzi to put the Saints up 1-0. Just two minutes later the Falcons had a player sent off which put UM in a big disadvantage down a goal and down one man.

Three minutes after the red card the Saints made a critical error by fouling a Falcons attacker in the penalty area which allowed junior Milan Pualic (Subotica, Serbia/Srednja Ekonosmka Skola School) an opportunity at a penalty shot. Pualic was 2-for-2 in penalties going into the game and connected on his third of the season with a nice shot past the FC keeper.

Down a man and with the game tied the Falcons continued to push putting five shots on goal in the second half but the Saints were able to take advantage of the situation as they scored in the 74th minute as Joseph Toby connected on a pass with Steven Carothers who put the ball past the keeper.

Junior Robert Mueller (Kileen, Texas/Kileen) made seven saves in the losing effort as his record fell to 3-2 on the season.

Pualic led the team in shots with five while junior Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) had three.

There were 10 total cards handed out in the game including five to the Falcons players.

The Falcons return to action Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. as they travel to Newberry College for a non-conference match.
