Falcons Shutdown USC Aiken, 4-0
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo men's soccer team (6-5-1, 2-3-0 PBC) dominated USC Aiken (4-7-1, 1-3-0 PBC) en route to a 4-0 victory. Junior goalkeeper Robert Mueller (Kileen, Texas/Kileen) made six saves in the shutout win while junior MilanPualic (Subotica, Serbia/Srednja Ekonosmka Skola School) scored the gamewinner just 14 minutes into the first half.
The Falcons out shot the Pacers 22-12 and doubled them up in shots on goal 12-6.
UM got on the board first as Pualic raced down the middle of the field and beat the Pacer defense for a one-on-one with the keeper. Pualic made a stutter step and shot the ball past the sprawled keeper to put the Falcons up 1-0. James Steer (Sheffield, England/Westfield School) and Alex Ghoja (Elkmont, Ala./Bob Jones) received assists on the play.
The Falcons went scoreless the rest of the first half and then exploded in the second for three goals.
Phil Jackson (Lincolnshire, England/Queen Elizabeth's) scored the first of the three goals in the second half as he kicked in a cross to put the Falcons ahead 2-0. Steer picked up his second assist of the game while Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) picked up his first.
Just under 10 minutes later Steer got on the board with his own goal as he blasted a shot from about 10 yards out. Foster was credited with his second assist and Austin McIntosh (Sheffield, England/All Saint Catholic) picked up his first assist of the game.
The final goal came at the 77:27 mark as Foster received a throughball from Nathan Archard (Huntsville, Ala./Grissom) and proceeded to beat the keeper for a 4-0 lead.
The Falcons return to action Thursday, Oct. 15 at 6:00 p.m. as they host Union College out of Tennessee.
