Late Comeback Downs Falcons, 3-1

ROME, Ga. - The University of Montevallo men's soccer team (9-6-1) entered halftime against Shorter College (10-5-1) with a 1-0 lead but after three SC second goals the Falcons fell 3-1. The Falcons were led by junior Nathaniel Foster (Brampton, Ontario/Humberview Secondary School) who scored his 10th goal of the season just 17 minutes into game.
UM and Shorter played an even first half with Shorter holding the slight edge in shots 7-6 but the Falcons held the advantage on the scoreboard 1-0. The goal came from Foster who received a pass from sophomore Matt Maughn (Toronto, Ontario/St. Marcellinus) to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
The Hawks stormed out of the gate in the second half as they dominated the second half in shots leading 10-3 and scored three times to hand the Falcons their sixth loss of the season.
The Hawks tied the game 15 minutes into the second half as Mark Beattie scored to tie the game at one. Just 11 minutes later the Hawks scored what would eventually be the game winner as Kyle Timberlake scored the go-ahead goal. The final Hawks goal came at the 83:07 mark as Garry Perks connected on a kick to put the Hawks up 3-1.
Junior Robert Mueller (Kileen, Texas/Kileen) made three saves in the loss while his counterpart Johnny Paletar made four saves for the win.
The Falcons will now focus their efforts on the Peach Belt Conference Tournament which starts Tuesday, Nov. 2. The Falcons are still awaiting the conclusion of all the PBC matches which will take place on Saturday and will solidify the standings.
