Ledgeway and O’Neill Honored by the PBC
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Sophomore goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway (York, England/All Saints) and sophomore defender Gary O’Neill (Dublin, Ireland/Presentation College) of the #21 University of Montevallo men’s soccer team (8-2-3) were named the Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper and Defender of the Week, respectively. Ledgeway and O’Neill helped the Falcons pick up a pair of shutouts this past week.
Ledgeway claims his second straight weekly award after extending his scoreless streak to 397 minutes. He is currently sitting in third in the UM record book and needs just 117 more scoreless minutes to take the record at UM. He began the week with a 1-0 shutout of #13 Clayton State. He made four saves including a diving stop on a well-time header by the CSU offense. He then made four saves in a 2-0 shutout of #11 Lander University. He currently leads the conference in saves (45) and is second in GAA (0.79).
O'Neill led the Falcon defense to two shutouts of top-15
opponents last week. The Falcons have not allowed a goal since
Sept. 24 in the 53rd minute against North Georgia. Currently
it’s the third longest scoreless streak in UM men's soccer
history and 117 minutes from the school record. The UM defense
currently leads the PBC with a 0.79 GAA.
Ledgeway, O’Neill and the rest of the Falcons extended their
scoreless streak to 507 minutes in last night’s 0-0 tie with
Lincoln Memorial. The Falcons and Ledgeway are now just seven
shutout minutes away from tying the UM record. Ledgeway and the
defense also moved into first in the PBC with a 0.72 GAA for the
season.
