MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team (5-2-1, 1-0-1 PBC) downed visiting North Georgia College and State University (4-3-1, 2-1-0 PBC) 2-1 despite playing a man down for 49 minutes. The Falcons scored both of their goals with one less player on the field after a red card was given with four minutes to play in the first half. UM's goals came from junior Patrick Dean (Panama City, Fla./Northwest C.C.) and sophomore Jackson Tolleson (Katy, Texas/Cinco Ranch).
The Falcons and saints played a very physical and defensive game early in the first period. UM took eight shots in the first period including two on goal while the Saints had five shots including three on goal.
The Falcons finally broke through in the 45th minute as Um was awarded a free kick. Senior Phil Jackson (Lincolnshire, England/Queen Elizabeth's) sent a ball towards the goal and Dean deflected the ball past the keeper to give UM a 1-0 lead to head into halftime.
The Saints struck just seven minutes into the second half as Manuel Hernandez hit a shot to the upper right corner of the goal to tie the game at one. Just 12 minutes later Jackson once again set the Falcons up for victory as he sent a cross into the box that found the feet of Tolleson who collected the ball and sent it to the far post to beat the NGCSU keeper.
The Sainst out-shot the Falcons 8-7 in the second half while both teams had three shots on goal.
Sophomore Brendan Ledgeway (York, England/All Saints) made five saves to pick up his fifth win of the season. Rade Tanaskovic made three saves in the loss for the Saints.
Junior Shane Howard (County Carlow, Ireland/Old Dominion University) led the Falcons with five shots including two on goal while Tolleson had three shots.
The Falcons will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 5:00 p.m. as they travel to the University of West Florida for a non-conference match.
