Falcons Add Three to New Men’s Cross Country Team

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo men’s cross country head coach Michael Marquardt announced the signing of three more recruits for the 2010 season. Nick Davidson, Adam Hansen-Weil and Aaron Bush will all be part of the first men’s cross country team at UM since 1966.

“I am very excited that these three young men will be joining our cross country team,” said Marquardt.

Davidson competed at Spanish Fort High School in Spanish Fort, Alabama. His personal records include 18:22 for the 5k, 4:58 for the 1600 meters, 2:04 for the 800 meters and fifty-one seconds for the 400 meter.  Nick was part of the 5A State XC Team Championship Team, 2010 5A State Track Championship Team and was on the 4x800 relay team that won the 5A state title.

“Nick is coming from a very good running program,” said Marquardt. “His high school team won the 5A cross country team championship and 5A track team championship this past year. Nick has good speed and has run very well on the track. He will be the first to tell you that he can run a lot faster during cross country season. I am looking forward to working with him over the next four years.”

Hansen-Weil competed at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Hansen-Weil’s personal records include: fifty-one seconds in the 400 meters, 2:06 for the 800 meters and the 19:25 for the 5k. He won the 2010 Coach Award for the Track Season. He was on the 4x400 meter team that finished 3rd at the State Championships. His 4x400 team was also the Regional Champions.

“Adam and Nick are very similar in a lot of ways,” said Marquardt. “He also has some really good track times because of his speed. He has only run cross country and track for one year. We are both very excited to see what he can do once he starts training year round.”

Bush is transferring in from the University of North Alabama. Bush competed at Shelby County High School in Columbiana, Alabama during his prep years. His records include 28:55 for the 8k, 16:55 for the 5k, and 4:43 for the 1600 meters. He lettered in track and cross country for two years each at SCHS.  Bush was selected 5A All-State Indoor Track Athlete in 2007. He was also selected All-Section Track Team during his junior and senior years. Bush qualified for the 5A state track championship in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meters during his senior year.

“Aaron is one of our transfers and I will lean on him a lot since he will be the old guy, even though he will only be a sophomore in competition,” said Marquardt. “He will be the only guy who has raced an 8k. There is a huge difference for freshman guys jumping from a 5k race to racing in an 8k every weekend. I know Aaron is looking forward to being a leader on our team. Aaron has also run some good times of his own! I know he will improve a lot as well because he has a tremendous work ethic. I am excited to see what these guys can do this Fall.”
