      <title>Falcons Soar During Spring Semester</title>

      <description>MONTEVALLO, Ala. &#x2013; The University of Montevallo athletic department had 64 student-athletes named to either the President&#x2019;s List or Dean&#x2019;s List at Montevallo for the spring 2012 semester. Baseball and women&#x2019;s soccer led all Montevallo teams with nine athletes being named to the two lists while volleyball and women&#x2019;s cross country tied for third with eight total student-athletes. To be named to the President&#x2019;s List a student must compile a 3.8 GPA or higher for the semester while a 3.5 or higher earns the student a mention on the Dean&#x2019;s List. Women&#x2019;s cross country led the way on the President&#x2019;s List with six student-athletes while women&#x2019;s soccer led the way on the Dean&#x2019;s List with six student-athletes as well.</description>

      <description>MONTEVALLO, Ala. &#x2013; The University of Montevallo athletic department had 100 student-athletes named to the 2011-12 Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll. The 100 is an improvement of 18 over the 82 named last year to the Honor Roll from UM. Men&#x2019;s soccer once again led all Montevallo teams with 20 members being named to the list. Baseball finished in second with 17 while women&#x2019;s soccer was third with 14. The Presidential Honor Roll recognizes all student-athletes at the 13 PBC member institutions who had a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the academic year.</description>

Montevallo won for their inaugural &#x201c;MOO Day&#x201d; which brought local elementary school children to the campus for a full day of athletic-related activities. The award is sponsored by SunTrust Banks, Inc., an official partner of the Peach Belt Conference.</description>

Student-athletes from the University of Montevallo athletic department joined their classmates in the large community service project. The Big Event was founded at Texas A &amp; M University in 1982 as a way to say thank you to the surrounding community. They envisioned a one day service event where students would thank the community that supports them by completing tasks at homes and businesses. The Big Event is now held each year at more than 70 universities across the country.</description>

Men&#x2019;s soccer student-athletes David Esser (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain) and Austin McIntosh (Sheffield, England/All Saint Catholic) along with women&#x2019;s soccer student-athlete Kristin Rosato (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) attended the event. The NCAA Career in Sports Forum is a four day event through which selected student-athletes explore and get educated on careers in sports, with a primary focus on collegiate athletics. The conference lasted from May 11 till May 14.</description>

Founded in 1944, the Jimmie Hale Mission is a shelter for homeless, hungry and hurting men. Not only does the mission focus on helping young men with their physical needs, but also their spiritual needs.</description>

      <description>MONTEVALLO, Ala. &#x2013; The University of Montevallo Student-Athlete Advisory Committee sponsored a Coaches versus Student-Athletes Kickball Game to raise money for Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event also featured a pie-in-the-face auction in which athletes, coaches and spectators could bid to pie a coach or administrator in the face. Each coach and student-athlete who played in the game had to donate $5 to Make-A-Wish.</description>

Last Wednesday (9/30) the University of Montevallo women's basketball team held a skills clinic for children from the Child Study Center located on campus.</description>
