Women’s Basketball Announces 2009-10 Recruiting Class
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo women’s basketball head coach Brittney Ezell announced the signing of four recruits for the 2009-10 season. Alex Sanabria (Miami, Fla./University of West Virginia), Amanda Scott (Cullman, Ala./UAB), Alex Strickland (Pinson, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) and Trena Moore-Smith (Charlotte, N.C./West Charlotte) will all join the Falcons this fall in their first season in the Peach Belt Conference.

Women’s Basketball Walk-on Tryout Reschedule Date Announced
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Head coach Brittney Ezell of the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team has announced the new tryout date for high school seniors, junior college players and currently enrolled students at the University of Montevallo. The new tryout will take place on Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. All interested players need to bring along a physical that is dated within six months of June 13 due to NCAA regulations as well as an unofficial transcript from their current school.

Women’s Basketball Set to Host Two Summer Activities
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Head coach Brittney Ezell of the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team has announced the Falcons will host a Little Lady Falcon Day Camp June 12 and 13 as well as a high school team play day. The play day will consist of 12 teams each getting four to five games on Wednesday, June 10. The Little Lady Falcon Camp will be a two-day camp for girls ages 5-12.

Lady Tigers Slip by Falcons at GSC Tournament, 62-52
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (8-20) fell to Ouachita Baptist University (21-7), 62-52, in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament. The Falcons had almost identical numbers to the Lady Tigers in all but one category, three-pointers. The Falcons and Tigers both hit 19-of-55 shots, both grabbed 39 rebounds and both turned the ball over 18 times where the difference came was eight of OBU’s 19 made shots where threes while only three of the Falcons shots came from long range.

Lewis Named to the All-GSC East First Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team was awarded a spot on the All-Gulf South Conference East Division First Team. Junior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, Louisiana) was named to the First Team All-GSC East Division Team for her first selection after joining the Falcons this season.

Follow the Falcons throughout the GSC Tournament
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s and women’s basketball teams have both been awarded spots in the Gulf South Conference Basketball Tournament. The women will take to the court first as they play on Wednesday, March 4 at 12:30 p.m. against Ouachita Baptist University. The men will follow suit at 2:45 p.m. on March 4 against the University of Arkansas-Monticello.

Falcons Clinch Berth to Gulf South Conference Tournament despite Falling to Tigers, 56-54
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Despite falling at home, the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (8-19, 4-8 GSC East) clinched a spot in the Gulf South Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament. This is the Falcons first postseason appearance since the 2006-07 season and they will enter as the No. 5 seed in the East Division. Head coach Brittney Ezell has guided the Falcons in inspiring fashion in her first season with the program, capturing 4 conference wins, doubling the tally of last season.

Falcons Fall in Defensive Battle, 63-38
VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball (8-18, 4-7 GSC East) struggled on the road against Valdosta State University (18-7, 8-3 GSC East) falling 63-38. It was a defensive-minded game as neither team shot over 40 percent from the field. The Falcons were led in scoring by sophomore Shan Jones (Hartselle, Alabama) who scored nine points off of 3-of-5 shooting.

Falcons Win Key GSC Match-up with West Florida, 57-47
PENSACOLA, Fla. – With the season winding down and postseason play on the line, the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (8-17, 4-6 GSC East) picked up a huge Gulf South Conference East Division victory over the University of West Florida (8-17, 3-7 GSC East), 57-47. The Falcons are now in sole possession of fourth place in the GSC East with a conference record of 4-6.

Falcons Fall Fighting to the Wolves, 67-63
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (7-17, 3-6 GSC East) hosted a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone event, ‘Think Pink’, to contribute to the fight against breast cancer today (Feb. 14). The WBCA Pink Zone initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA’s nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities, and beyond. The University of Montevallo is one of over 1,250 schools nationwide to be involved in a Pink Zone event.

Falcons Fall to Lions, 69-62
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (7-15, 3-4 GSC East) out-rebounded the University of North Alabama, and secured a 78.9 percent success rate from the free-throw line, but were unable to come away with the win as the Lions produced a strong display to seize victory, 69-62. The Falcons led the Lions until the 07:06 mark; however the Lions shot 22-of-44 from the field good for 50.0 percent, edging the Falcons on the night, who hit 33.8 percent.

Falcons Comeback Falls Just Short in Loss, 69-66
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (7-15, 3-4 GSC East) outscored the University of Alabama-Huntsville (6-16, 2-5 GSC East) 36-24 in the second half but could not overcome a 15-point halftime deficit. The Falcons were led by junior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, Louisiana) who scored a game-high 24 points including five three pointers. Sophomore Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) chipped in a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Falcons Set to Host WBCA Pink Zone Event Versus West Georgia
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team has announced its intention to host a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone event to help fight breast cancer. The Falcons will host the University of West Georgia on Feb, 14 at 1:00 p.m. and all proceeds at the gate and concession stands will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Central Alabama Affiliate. UM is one of over 1,250 schools nationwide to be participating in a Pink Zone event.

Second Half Comeback Leads to 65-57 Victory over West Alabama
LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (7-14, 3-3 GSC East) used a second half comeback to defeat the University of West Alabama (7-12, 1-4 GSC East), 65-57. The Falcons were down 34-28 at halftime but stormed back in the second half to take the conference win. They were led by junior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, Louisiana) who scored a game-high 26 points while connecting on six three-pointers.

Falcons Narrowly Fall Despite Strong Display, 51-50
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (6-14, 2-3 GSC East) out-shot, out-rebounded, and secured a 78.6% completion mark from the free throw line against Valdosta State University (15-4, 5-0 GSC East), but were unable to come away with a win as the Lady Blazers out-scored the Falcons to secure tight 51-50 victory in the last 3 seconds of the game.

Falcons Power Past Argos, 89-79
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (6-13, 2-2 GSC East) employed excellent attack and key rebounds to out-shoot and dominate the University of West Florida, 89-79, and secure its second victory of the season in the Gulf South Conference East Division. The Falcons were led impressively by senior Katie Vanderhyden (Elwood, Illinois) who scored a season-high 25 points, including 5-for-5 from three-point range, while also grabbing 6 rebounds.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (5-13, 1-2 GSC East) used strong defense and some key late runs to take its first Gulf South Conference East Division victory of the season, 65-56, over the University of Alabama-Huntsville (4-13, 1-2 GSC East). The Falcons were powered by senior Katie Vanderhyden’s (Elwood, Illinois) huge double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Falcons Fall Despite Strong First Half, 80-67
FLORENCE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (4-13, 0-2 GSC East) out-shot and out-rebounded the Lions of the University of North Alabama (9-8, 2-0 GSC East) but were unable to come away with the win as the Lions hit 18 second half free throws to capture the victory, 80-67. The Falcons out-scored the Lions 34-33 in the first half but were unable to overcome a disadvantage that saw the Lions take 14 more free throws than the Falcons.

Falcons Fall in Conference Opener at West Georgia, 54-38
CARROLLTON, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (4-12, 0-1 GSC East) fell in its conference opener at the University of West Georgia (10-4, 1-0 GSC East) tonight (Jan. 8), 54-38. The Falcons were led by sophomore Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) who scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds both team highs.

Falcons Fall on the Road at Ouachita Baptist, 82-68
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (4-11) fell in its final non-conference game of the year to Ouachita Baptist University (9-2), 82-68. The Falcons were led by Alicia Lewis’ (Youngsville, Louisiana) season-high 18 points and six rebounds.

Falcons Take No. 20 Arkansas Tech to the Limit in an Overtime Thriller
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Powered by one of the strongest first halves of the season the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (4-10) took No. 20 Arkansas Tech University (10-3) to overtime before falling 59-55 in the extra period. The Falcons shot 52.2 percent from the field in the first half and used that momentum to propel them in a late second half comeback to push the game into overtime.

Montevallo Uses Total Team Effort in Win over Henderson State
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (4-9) had all 10 available players score at least one basket in the final game of the 2008 portion of their season. The Falcons defeated Henderson State University (5-6) 75-69 to avenge an early season loss to the Lady Reddies. Sophomore Tiaren Young (Adamsville, Alabama) scored a season-high 16 points off of 5-of-9 shooting to help lead the Falcons to victory.

Montevallo Falls at Delta State, 61-45
CLEVELAND, Miss. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (3-9) dropped a tough road game at Delta State University (9-4), 61-45. The Falcons were led be junior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, Louisiana) who scored a team-high 13 points and dished out three assists. The Falcons made the most of their free opportunities hitting 12 of their 13 free throws for 92.3 percent, a season-high.

Montevallo to Offer Free Admission to Select Home Basketball Games
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo athletic department has invited the local Montevallo community to check out some Falcon basketball free of charge. The home games on Dec. 28 and Jan. 1 will be free to all members of the local community. The Falcons take on Henderson State University at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28 and No. 20 Arkansas Tech University at 2 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Falcons Take Claflin to the Final Seconds, 59-56
ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (3-8) pushed Claflin University (3-4) to the brink but the Lady Panthers hit some late free throws to give themselves the 59-56 victory. Junior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, Louisiana) and senior Katie Vanderhyden (Elwood, Illinois) scored 14 and 11 points, respectively, to keep the Falcons in the game till the end.

Falcons Fall at No. 17 USC-Aiken, 74-54
AIKEN, S.C. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (3-7) fell behind early in the first half but played a strong and even second-half against the nationally-ranked Pacers of the University of South Carolina-Aiken (7-2). No. 17 Aiken shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the first half to build a lead but the Falcons strong defense in the second cut the Pacers’ percentage to 32 percent and allowed the Falcons to play an even 31-31 second half.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (3-6) out-scored the University of Mobile (6-4) 40-26 in the first half and used that momentum to hang on for the win 66-60. Junior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, Louisiana) led the way with 15 points and eight assists.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo athletic department has announced a holiday special featuring the men’s and women’s basketball teams at the University. UM in partnership with Penn Atlantic, Inc. is offering free video broadcasts of the December Montevallo basketball games.

Falcons Have Strong Second Half versus Delta State
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (2-6) held Delta State University (5-4) to just 36 percent shooting but was unable to take down the Lady Statesmen, 55-45. The Falcons used a strong defensive presence to hold the Lady Statesmen to just 36 percent while the Falcons shot just above 42 percent.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (2-5) struggled shooting the ball all night and dropped a tough 66-50 contest with Southern Arkansas University (2-5). Sophomore Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) led the Falcons with 15 points and nine rebounds.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (2-4) fell behind early and could never recover as Henderson State University (3-2) used superb free-throw shooting to capture a 69-55 victory. Both the Falcons and Lady Reddies struggled from the field each shooting just above 30 percent but HSU took advantage of its 27 free throws making 25.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (2-3) used a late 13-1 run to seal a 71-68 victory over Ouachita Baptist University (1-1) at home. The Falcons were led by sophomores Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tennessee), Shan Jones (Hartselle, Alabama) and junior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, Louisiana).

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (1-3) lost a tough battle with Claflin University (1-0) at home tonight (Nov. 20), 78-72. The Falcons were led by sophomore Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) who scored 24 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

ROME, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (1-2) traveled to Shorter College (2-2) for its first road game of the season. The Falcons fell behind early and trailed most of the way as the Lady Hawks were victorious, 67-58. The Falcons leading scorer was junior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, Louisiana) who had 14 points and four rebounds.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (1-1) fell to Clark Atlanta University (1-1) 66-56 in a tough back-and-forth battle. The Falcons were led by senior Katie Vanderhyden (Elwood, Illinois) who had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Montevallo Wins Season Opener and Puts Up its Highest Point Total Since 2002
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team (1-0) got off to a flying start as the Falcons defeated Berea College (2-3), 91-83. It marked the first career victory for head coach Brittney Ezell at the NCAA level. The 91 points are the most points the Falcons have scored since February 20, 2002 against Miles when they put up 103.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team ended exhibition play Saturday night at the University of Alabama-Birmingham but fell to their second Division I opponent in three days. The Falcons fell 74-45.

Ezell Era gets Under Way for Women’s Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women’s basketball team opened the exhibition portion of its 2008-09 season with a road loss to Division I opponent, Samford University. The Falcons were under the direction of first year head coach Brittney Ezell. UM lost the overall game 79-57 but were able to win the second half 38-36.

Women’s Basketball Volunteers at Birmingham Children’s Hospital
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Members of the Montevallo women’s basketball team reached out to the community once more Tuesday (Oct. 28). Teammates Christina Shelton (Alabaster, Alabama), Tiaren Young (Adamsville, Alabama), Tateshia Page (Canton, Mississippi), Manal Cali (North Hampton, England) and Shan Jones (Hartselle, Alabama) spent a couple of hours in the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Room of Magic with some very special children. The players directed an arts and crafts activity with the young patients and played basketball in the physical therapy room with others.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Members of the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team joined forces with Habitat for Humanity to reach out and help a family in need, Saturday (Oct. 11). This was one of the first steps coach Brittney Ezell has planned to help her team embrace the community.

MONTEVALLO (8/21) – The University of Montevallo has added three more student-athletes for the 2008-09 season, it has been announced. Manal Cali (Northampton, England), Tateshia Page (Canton, Miss.) and Wakesha Searight (East Cleveland, Oh.) will join the Falcons this fall.
