Falcons Fall on the Road, 60-52
AMERICUS, Ga. - The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (7-5, 0-2 PBC) dropped its second game in Peach Belt Conference play on the road at Georgia Southwestern State University (7-5, 2-0 PBC), 60-52. The Falcons were led by juniors Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) and Kristen Seigenthaler (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) who each had 14 points in the losing effort.
Parrott added a team-high nine rebounds to her 14 points while senior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, La./Comeaux) scored eight points to finish third on the team.
The Falcons outscored the Lady Hurricanes 22-14 in the paint but gave up 19 points off turnovers which proved to be one of the deciding factors in the game.
GSW jumped out to a 10-4 lead capped off by a Brandi Burris three-pointer. The Falcons tied the game at 13 with a 9-3 run powered by layup and free throw by Parrott. The game continued to go back-and-forth for the next few points until the Lady hurricanes pulled away with about three minute to play in the half as they took a 28-20 lead with just one minute remaining. UM was able to chop that lead to just three heading into intermission, 28-25.
The second half featured the Falcons making a comeback midway through the period and taking a 40-39 lead with 12:01 remaining. The two teams traded baskets for the next eight minutes but the Lady Hurricanes used another run to take a 567-51 lead with just two minutes to play in the game. A few free throws later the game ended with the Lady Hurricanes ahead, 60-52.
The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. as they host North Georgia College and State University in PBC action. The Saints are 5-5 and 1-1 in PBC play.
