Late First Half Run Leads to Third-Straight Victory, 62-54
SAVANNAH, Ga. - The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (10-5, 3-2 PBC) picked up its third-straight victory with a 62-54 win over Armstrong Atlantic State University (6-8, 3-3 PBC) on the road. The Falcons were led by senior Amanda Scott (Cullman, Ala./West Point) who scored a career-high 21 points off the bench. She scored 16 of her 21 points in the first half. She also had four blocks and five rebounds. Senior Alex Sanabria (Miami, Fla./Miami) also came off the bench to score double-figures with 12 points.
Senior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, La./Comeaux) had nine points while junior Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) had five and a team-high nine rebounds.
Both teams got out of the gates slow with neither team picking up much of an advantage. After 17 minutes played in the first half both teams were knotted up at 21. The Falcons then went on a 7-0 run to end the first half and take a 28-21 lead into the locker room.
The Falcons slowly built up their lead to begin the second half as they outscored the Lady Pirates 13-8 in the first five minutes of the period. The Lady Pirates began to chip away at the lead and were able to cut it down to just three points with 8:25 left in the game. Four minutes later that lead was cut down to just one but the Falcons would not give up the advantage as they went on a 5-0 run to open it back up to 55-49. A number of free throws down the stretch ballooned the Falcons lead to eight as they closed out the game 62-54.
The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 4:30 p.m. as they travel to Clayton State University for another tough Peach Belt Conference contest. CSU is 12-3 on the season and 3-2 in PBC play.
