Falcons Win Key PBC West Division Match-up with North Georgia, 62-58

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - With the regular season winding down each game becomes more important for the University of Montevallo women's basketball team (13-11, 6-8 PBC). UM has won its last two contests including tonight's 62-58 win on the road at North Georgia College and State University (9-13, 4-9 PBC). The win ends a three-way tie between UM, NGCSU and Georgia Southwestern. The Falcons are now tied for fourth in the Peach Belt Conference Western Division with Georgia Southwestern with three games to play. Only the top four teams from the division advance to the PBC Tournament.

The Falcons will play the top three teams in the western division in their final three games while GSW plays the first, third and sixth place teams in the division for their final three games. UM is home for two of its three final games while GSW is on the road for two of its final three games.

UM was led tonight by junior Shan Jones (Hartselle, Ala./Hartselle) who scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards. Junior Kristen Seigenthaler (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) scored 11 points while classmate and high school teammate Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) scored 10 points and grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Senior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, La./Comeaux) scored eight points and led the team in assists with four.

The Falcons out-rebounded the Saints 42-34. They used a 16-12 advantage on the offensive glass to outscore the Saints 16-8 in second chance points.

UM never trailed in the game despite the score being close at the end.

The Falcons opened up the game with a 9-0 run and held the Saints scoreless for the first four minutes of play. Down 10 with 11:55 left in the first half NGCSU went on a 9-0 run to cut the Falcons lead to just one. UM continued to hang on the rest of the half as they ended the period up 25-22.

UM opened the second half much like the first as they scored seven unanswered points to take a quick 10-point lead. The Falcons continued to build that lead and led by 16 with 6:52 to play. The Saints responded with a 13-0 run that lasted just under three minutes and cut the Falcons lead to three with 4:01 to play. UM would not relinquish the lead as the Falcons hit key shots down the stretch including hitting 6-of-8 free throws in the final 1:30.

The Falcons return to action this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. as they host 15th-ranked Clayton State University. The game will also mark the Falcons Pink Zone Event and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.  CSU is 19-5 overall and 10-4 in the PBC.
