Falcons Defeat Eckerd 65-52 on the Road
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of Montevallo women's basketball team (4-1) returned to its winning ways as the Falcons defeated host Eckerd College (2-2) at the Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic, 65-52. The Falcons had four players in double-digits and were led by senior Alicia Lewis (Youngsville, La./Comeaux) who scored 13 points and snagged nine rebounds.
Senior Manal Cali (Northampton, England/Northampton School for Girls) scored 12 points while junior Carrie Parrott (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Siegel) and senior Amanda Scott (Cullman, Ala./West Point) each scored 11 points. Junior Shan Jones (Hartselle, Ala./Hartselle) scored seven points and pulled down seven rebounds.
UM held Eckerd to just 29.3 percent shooting while the Falcons shot 48.0 percent from the field. The Falcons opened up the game with a 22-10 run which set the tempo for the rest of the game. The Falcons held onto a double-digit lead for most of the first half as the period ended with UM up 38-28.
The second half was much like the first with the Falcons holding a double-digit lead almost the entire half. The closest the Tritons would come was six points at 42-36 but the Falcons responded with a 6-0 run that opened up another double-digit lead for the Falcons.
The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. as they host Concordia College-Selma inside the Student Activities Center in Montevallo.
